Is crush considered a former tag team champion? Seems a sneaky way to get a title reign. Also anyone else think Repoman looks so much smaller than Smash that they never twigged on they were the same person? I figured it out by noticing Smash had the same upper arm tattoo as Repo Man. My friends didn't believe me though.

If Demolition had lost to LOD, or even the Rockers, it would've been fine. Here you had them put over 2 unknowns in America. Tenryu was arguably the biggest star in Japan at the time, but pre-Internet fans would have no way of knowing. I don't know if they had any plans for Kitao going forward, but apparently he managed to piss off the entire locker room in this one night, leading to the shoot incident with Earthquake during the Japan tour. Yeah, in retrospect they should have just had Demolition cost the LOD the tag title shot in the battle royal, therefore at WM7 you could have had LOD vs Demolition and Tenryu and Fred could have just taken on the Orient Express to see who the best "Japanese" team was. Yep. Much more logical booking. And Power and Glory could have........ehh...who cares, they were hot garbage by then

Demolition was a cool act from late 87 to summer 1990 (IMO) around that time they just seemed like chubby guys who weren’t terribly threatening

Barbarian and Haku weren’t a full-time team, just the last remnants of the Heenan Family with no real reason to feud with the Rockers.

I agree Repo looked WAY smaller then Smash. He either lost size, or it was the way he would walk around quite hunched over making him appear much smaller

Also anyone else think Repoman looks so much smaller than Smash that they never twigged on they were the same person? Well, it took me a bit to figure it out, but his voice absolutely gave him away. The tattoo as well, but I only bothered to notice that way later. The hair confused me for a while (went from having long curled hair to very short hair that was practically balding on top) He also carried himself differently as Repo Man. He didn't quite brawl as much like he did as Smash, and the hunched over running & sneaking around sure made him seem like a different person.

Definitely one of the sadder ends for a once popular wrestler or wrestlers in this case. They should have been kept stronger than they had been, even if not as strong storyline wise with Legion of Doom. I always envisioned WrestleMania tag matches like this: Barbarian and Haku defeat Bushwhackers, Rockers defeat Power and Glory, Legion of Doom defeat Demolition. It would see some feuds playing out over three or four PPVs but that's how it worked during the time. If they needed Tenryu and Kitao, then have them defeat Orient Express as someone else noted.

Smash actually did have shorter hair when they debuted, but by the time they won the titles he let it grow out. EDIT: Here's a match with short hair Smash: www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDTuw3NKNpw

They were effectively done after Summerslam 90. Sad end to the greatest ever tag team,

Poor Ax and Smash looked so much older and worn out at Survivor Series 1990 from WrestleMania 6. With Ax I think it was specifically him slicking his hair as a face to it being dry and him looking so worn out at Survivor Series. Smash looked significantly older, too. They didn't go through the effort of putting on their vests, masks and gloves either. Even Crush with a big opportunity in WWF, even he looked worn down.

Demolition is a rare example of Vince preferring someone else's creation to his own (in this case, when he got the real LOD, it was like, to hell with Demolition)
All the same, this WAS the Coy and Vance, Steed and Tara version of the Demos anyway. But the OP said despite that, it was still upsetting.
Wanna see something weird? Smash vs. Hawk. In an Australian indy. In *1993*

I liked Demolition as a kid, but in retrospect they looked like a couple of suburban dads with some weird fetishes. Oh, avoid current day pictures of them in that gear. Yes, that was an accurate statement. There are current day pictures of them in that gear. It truly is disturbing

I think the recent pics were from like 2010. I know Ax truly retired a few years ago, in Pittsburgh where he started IIRC. That video with Smash and Hawk almost looks like it could have been Smash from a few years ago.

Legion of doom vs demolition at mania 7 is a great missed opportunity in that classic wwf era. Should have built it up over the months and made it a team splits up match. A random charisma free Japanese team was a terrible choice.

Saying that they were jobbed out isn’t quite fair. While losing a match in a little under 5 minutes isn’t great, there were 5 other matches on the card shorter than it. And in defense of Demolition they were on offense the majority of the match. Guys like Santana, Valentine and Hercules really got the raw deal at WM 7.
