I just had to share this because... Gahhhhh.
... They didn't expect this negative a reaction to Baron Corbin. They've spent months telling us how boring this dude is and they didn't expect people to not be thrilled by the prospect of watching him. What.

Vince exists in his own little bubble where what he thinks is what he assumes everyone thinks.

I’m starting to feel a bit bad for Corbin. He’s been getting absolutely crucified for months for the sins of the booking pen.
Is he getting pushed above his ability? Yeah, I’d say so. But the fact is there have been times where he’s had a good-to-great match and the run of Talking Smack is enough proof that he’s a solid promo guy, so he’s CLEARLY quite capable of doing the job he’s getting paid to do, with the right booking. This is NOT the right booking, but because he’s the visible end part of the process, he’s the one that cops all the shit while Vince McMahon and/or the faceless underlings in the writing room get away scot-free.

I was shocked when I dropped a glass cup on to the floor on purpose and it shattered everywhere.

Even for WWE, this is ridiculous. You spend months shitting on this poor guy, telling us no one watches anymore because of him and then act surprised people don't want to see him retire one of the all time greats?

If this was the direction they were going in, why the hell did they hype him as a surprise reveal? Corbin vs Angle has legit build as a grudge match, so they could have built that directly, with Kurt vowing that he can’t retire until he settles the score with the man who wronged him. Instead, they let the rumor mill run wild, placing the expectation of a surprise/major match with Cena as the logical answer, but then went with the most boring possibility of the bunch.

I actually like Corbin. Been a fan since day one when he was squashing people in NXT, i'd even be ok with Angle vs Corbin at Mania if they didn't advertise it as Kurt's last match. Even as a Corbin fan I get that Kurt deserves to go out working someone like Joe or Cena.

BUt they pushed him so hard ratings cratered, then started some meta work nonsense acknowledging bad ratings on TV with Corbin as the sole point of blame. For three months they've treated him like the ultra devil and it's not like he's really thrived in that heel pariah role either. There's no f***ing excuse for this.

Honestly I think WWE vastly overestimates how much people actually care about their storylines solely for being long. Like yeah, Angle / Corbin has been building for about ten months now, but in that time, no one's really given any sort of a shit about it. I don't think WWE realizes that just because they put something onscreen doesn't mean anyone actually wants to watch it.

WWE fails to see the difference, but there's a reason that Walter White's character arc is praised and Dragon Ball Z got a rerelease trimming almost half of the series out of itself.

To me, I don’t want to see Angle try to have a classic match at a point when he’s pretty broken down. Give me him tossing Corbin with a few belly-to-belly suplexes, Angle Slam, straps go down and he taps him with the ankle lock.

Yeah feel a bit sorry for Corbin if I'm honest. Guy has been booked to shit and is utterly overexposed because of it, but I kinda liked the over-stupidly biased Constable Corbin for a bit (they killed it at the right time thank god). Now he's just a massive goof and the fallguy for the mosty terrible booking decisions of recent past.
He's done some good promo work in the past and had some fun matches but nothing recently obviously, and no, I don't want to see him Vs Angle as Kurt's 'final match'.
Given the right stuff to do, I reckon he'd come across much better, but yeah, his recent work has been garbage, but I blame the booking and overexposure more than the guy having to endure this shit.

I.dont even watch and I get bored of Corbin just reading the reports.
His role should just be tag team guy, or big bodyguard.

WWE played this very badly. Angle/Corbin really should be the WM match given the long term build, but once they hyped it as Angle's last match and seemed to imply a mystery opponent then Corbin was going to be a terrible reveal. I'd probably still do it just to have Angle tap him out in 1 minute or something. Then maybe have a surprise person come out like Cena or Taker for Angle's actual last match.

Angle vs Corbin is an ok match on say..Battleground or Payback or something in a regular match where Corbin gets his ass kicked by a bunch of baby faces after in a feel good segment.
Angle vs Corbin in Angle’s retirement match however is a dumb idea.

Who are WrestleVotes?
This just seems a pretty safe insider take, considering everyone thinks Corbin was always going to be replaced anyway.

They’ve been openly burying him since the Cena feud and MITB stuff, and ALREADY DID THIS MATCH on some throwaway RAW. Of course people are shitting all over it.

Do WWE higher ups suffer from a sort of collective amnesia or something?
