It's really not that simple or that basic; WWE finds something, runs with it horribly, drives it into the ground because they're bad at doing this, people turn on its poor execution. How you can make some kind of weird circle of life, "people turn on everything" statement about the fact that they've booked three gauntlet matches in the span of a month and a half is strange to say the least Because it more or less always happens, no matter the match or the person. They get behind something and then we begin to hate it because most feel it turns into a watered down version of what the original once was. It even happened to Austin on old school Internet forums. Your contemporary examples of this are gauntlet matches, which nobody wants to see become the core booking strategy of any show, and a thread about Becky where people a handful of people are critical of Becky's booking to what from what I saw was some pretty strong majority opposition. You're confusing different opinions for groupthink and projecting weirdo stuff onto wrestling fans as a whole by reading any nuance to an opinion and any variance therein as inconsistency or people never being happy. It's no way to live.

I’m picturing the SDL script just saying GAUNTLET MATCHOn have the pages. I like to think it's like a stat holiday for writers. *Writer hangs up coat on his living room wall.* Wife: What are you doing home on a Tuesday? *Writer smiles, opens his arms wide and shakes his jazz fingers.* Writer: Gauntlet match...!

I’m picturing the SDL script just saying GAUNTLET MATCHOn have the pages. It's a good mental image but there's no way modern WWE is capable of that kind of brevity.

I just hate Gauntlet Matches. I'm fine if no one ever used then again

I think they made thematic sense in the context of this feud (Kofi overcoming the odds), but at the same time I think they've been an underappreciated factor in some SDL Mania matches having minimal builds or none at all. Its easy to complain about Charlotte/Becky, but they're not the ones regularly taking 50+ minutes an episode of a 120 minute show.

Gauntlet matches should be a rarity, because the structure of them makes guys look successively weaker, as they get pinned by someone who has already fought one, two, three, four other guys. You shouldn't want to devalue several wrestlers on your roster all for the sake of one match.
Keeping them very rare also makes the achievement of winning one that much more impressive.

Makes MY job easier with the points rankings, I guess.

I know many of you looks up to the new day but let's get real some of these guys like Shamus are former multi world champions that got pinned easily a d so you actually going to accept Xavier Woods as a world champion material now?
Previous Gauntlet matches guys like Seth Rollins beat I think four guys including John Cena but then some other guy (Finn?) beat him and they continued that's what it should be not Kofi beating 7 guys all in a row or the new day beating up five tag teams in a row or whatever that's just Superman stuff that Roman Reigns gets booked on. I don't get it. all of you hated Roman booked similar but when Kofi and Xavier gets booked like Roman it's okay? Isht this being kind of hypocritical against Roman now? and no I'm not a Roman Reigns fan. Roman the character that is

I was actually hoping, instead of an uso promo and a forfeit, that they would come out like they were all ready to fight and asking the ref to ring the bell to start, Xavier and E look panicked at having to face the fresh tag champs after E has gone through the table, they struggle to the corner. Xavier is ready to start the match jey or jimmy comes to the middle of the ring, say "for kofi" and drop flat on his back. Xavier doesn't know if they're pulling his leg or not but goes in for the 1,2,3 and gets the win.
thought it would better tease the back and forth history between usos and new day while still giving the usos the big face moment by letting kofi get his shot when most everyone figures they could have prevented it if they wanted. bonus if they had a quick cut to the back before the match started and have kofi staring at Naomi with a pleading or questioning look in his eyes while she stares back with a "I don't know what they'll do either" expression on her face

Next week on smackdown the kurt angle retirement gauntlet match! They gotta cram in all of those remaining dream matches before WrestleMania.

Yep and the tired tropes of them are getting annoying. I rolled my eyes massively when The Bar attacked New Day after the match. Standard gauntlet match stuff. The Uso’s forfeit was a nice touch mind.

I want to see Corbin get booked for a gauntlet match and if he wins he gets inserted into the Rollins/Lesnar match.
Corbin then loses VIA rollup 15 seconds into the match

I hope we get a new PPV called WWE GAUNTLET, and it features 9-hours of non-stop action featuring 6 gauntlet matches, and one of them features Baron Corbin for the purpose of getting him HEAT. New match-type: "Infinity Wars". The title holder stays secluded in a 'Big Brother' esque ring, and 24/7 there's a streaming Twitch channel that keeps the match going perpetually with the winner facing the challengers until they lose. There is no time limit, no participant limit, no end to the suffering of the performer until they've embraced the pinfall/submission loss to let them leave.

From a kayfabe perspective, what if Kofi ended up losing his first or second match last week? Then what happens? What other segment/match is booked? I know a Gauntlet match continues with the winner of the previous match but the stipulation was for Kofi to go to Wrestlemania.

I don't care. I like them. Three matches in this short of a time is too many, but they've got these angles over. The fans go cold a bit in the middle, then they explode at the endings.
Also, it's wrestling shows booked around wrestling, rather than around backstage segments or promos or talking about 'telling stories' while having the exact same match every week. And no, having gauntlet matches back-to-back weeks is not the same as the same opponents having the same matches ad nauseum.
