Tessa Blanchard Says She Has Creative Control in Impact

WrestlingInc.com recently spoke to Tessa Blanchard for media scrum Q&A. Below are some highlights.

Tessa Blanchard on WOW working with Impact: “Who knows? WOW and Impact are both different brands, but Tessa Blanchard never changes. I’m the same Tessa Blanchard there as with Impact. One thing about WOW that I love is that we’re taking women from all different parts of life. We have girls from jiu jitsu and an MMA background. We have mothers. We have students. We have people from everyday life who found this love for professional wrestling.”

Blanchard on training other WOW competitors: “I live in Long Beach now and I train those girls for five days a week when I’m not on the road. To watch them grow from scratch, it’s just a really cool thing for me. Some people think they’re just actresses and not professional wrestlers. But that just shows how close-minded people are because they can do it.”

Blanchard on her advice to young talents: “To always stay hungry. My stepdad told me one day, probably about five years ago when I was just starting my training, to go out there and become undeniable. That’s something that’s always stuck with me over the years and I feel like I’ve done that.”

Blanchard on Taya Valkyrie: “She wouldn’t be [champion] if it wasn’t because of Gail Kim. Taya has never beaten me in a fair fight one-on-one. Taya has always needed a stipulation or a special guest referee or something that puts the odds in her favor. Because I am a top athlete and one of the best, if not the best professional wrestler in Impact Wrestling, I feel like they have stacked the odds against me a little bit in Taya’s favor. So, maybe Madison Square Garden’s the place I take that title back.”

Blanchard on getting to be herself in Impact Wrestling:m”I’ve gone places where they’ve told me what I need to do, what I need to say, who I need to be, what moves I need to perform. And at Impact I get to just be me. I have creative control to be me and do what I want. To show people this is what Tessa Blanchard’s about and if you don’t like it, tough sh**.”

Give her more years and Tessa can surpass Charlotte imo. And the moment she decides to leave Impact she will probably go AEW instead of the E because she wants creative control.

Handing out creative autonamy like candy probably wont be the best idea in the long term.

especially if said people know how desperate the company is to retain their services.

I think creative control is a loaded term. Probably in this case it’s more that she gets to decide how her character acts more than getting to decide all her match finishes.

She is a young talent, why is she giving advice to young talent? She's not some 20 year veteran. She's 23 and has been wrestling for 5 years. She's not some wizened veteran.

WWE passing on her in spite of her talent and last name is a really big red flag and she'll definitely go the Austin Aries road with her career if she doesn't learn to drop the attitude.

Yeah, there’s no way Scott and Don are giving full creative control to anyone. She has creative input, that’s WAY different. Giving her full creative control would be like giving Low Ki or Gail Kim full creative control, they’d never look at the lights again.

Creative control to wrestlers seems like a wise idea, if you can staff your company with a bunch of Mick Foley rather than Hardcore Holly types.

Her attitude kinda resembles Sasha Banks imo, with the difference is that Sasha never had creative control over her character(main roster).

Impact will give Tessa anything she wants because they know she is that talented, I wont be surprised if they let her go to AAA for some tapings that builds up the match vs Taya at MSG, after all her boyfriend Daga works there.

Because her father, pro wrestler Tully Blanchard, was a wrestler who was also her father who wrestled. And her step-father, pro wrestler Magnum TA, was also a wrestler who was also her step-father who also wrestled.

I'm reading this as control over her character, not her matches or finishes. Impact wrestling wouldn't grant her that.

The way she worded it, it just means they let her be herself and wrestle the way she wants to. Not that she has veto power over finishes and storylines, etc.

What's with the Madison Square Garden reference? Is the rumored AAA show there happening, and Taya vs. Tessa is on the show?
