I almost forget at times how much of a clusterf*** post-9/11 pop culture was.

Hell, there's stuff that's ok now, that would have been offensive back then.

I was listening to some old Dan Lebatard Show bits on YouTube and there are jokes about how attractive different NCAA women's basketball coaches are. That wouldn't fly at ESPN today.

Going back through Venture Bros from the beginning, there was a shockingly number of instances of "Gay" being used with a negative connotation.

Hardee's (Carl's Jr) had a series of very strange and unpleasant commercials trying to make it Fast Food For Men. It had this weird vibe that made it feel more like Fast Food For Sociopaths, though.

Okay, being that people mentioned the Molly Holly angle, this one's another one related to wrestling: Eddie-sploitation. Enough said.

"My dad almost went to jail for selling illegal steroids, which is totally on the same level as the World Trade Center being destroyed" Said it once and I'll say it again: I understand what she was going for, but of course wrong words. I don't think she meant to be malicious or disrespectful. But hey, it's Steph, so it's all that is evil. She probably didn't get any comeuppance for that and emasculated a guy or two while doing so. Now the people on that show asking to pretty much nuke the middle East...

So... 9/11 affected the US in a way, and some things were made we'd rather not discuss. Also, in the 80s thread I made a reference to the WTC or anything resembling 9/11 becoming taboo. So it shall be here too, as 2000/pre-Sept. 2001 stuff was affected, obviously. (Spider-Man trailer, several movies of the time, pretty much gutted Transformers: Robots in Disguise/Car Robots' run...) Didn't last, but worth mentioning of course. I hated this. I know the Spider-Man trailer, and wasn't there supposed to be a big battle scene at the towers? Or maybe it was supposed to be Men in Black 2. Zoolander and The Sopranos cut out images of the towers. Like...what did the towers do? They are iconic buildings that made up the most famous city in the world's skyline. They should never be cut out from things. They should remain as a memorial and tribute.

Yeah Spider-Man was going to have him make a huge web between the towers and catch, like, a helicopter or something. I get it, the towers didn't "do" anything but seeing them right after would give the whole audience flashbacks, kinda takes people out of the movie when they think about collapsing buildings, people jumping out of them because that's the better option etc.

Early seasons Howard in Big Bang Theory. Granted it was known at the time, that he was a problem, but we were supposed to like and sympathize with him. He was way beyond a creep. Good thing is, they changed his character, and had him say he's ashamed and disgusted by the way he used to act.

Using “gay” and “retarded” as adjectives for things you didn’t like seemed more like a 2000’s thing, compared to the 80’s or 90’s.

The Office..I guess? Carell has said it wouldn’t be feasible today. I’m not sure what he meant by that. I could see a few things in the early series not being acceptable. Like some stuff from the gay witch hunt episode. But plenty of stuff in it is quite harmless.

The Marshall Matthers LP by Eminem also drew a lot of criticism back in 2000 and still is very homophobic today.

Stunned more Family Guy moments haven't popped up here yet.
Any commentary (mostly WWF/E at this point) that refers to Chris Benoit's killer instinct and such.
