I mean, that's the idea, anyhow. I do not know yet how it's going to shake out, but I do think they've said that the story is not going to be paced as like a carbon copy of the original, which, that's cool by me, particularly if we get more character interactions. A friend asked me if, in the original, Tifa and Aerith talked much outside of about Cloud. I told them I don't even remember if they talked much even WITH Cloud as context. It was mostly Tifa and Barrett, or people talking to Cloud alone, not really much in the way of character interactions outside of that, and that's something they could easily expand on. For as vast as the story was, they have a lot they can prove on and towns you were just in for a quick mission can now be spent doing other things for a few hours. These towns are alive and you get to explore it which is def what i'm liking forward. You're not just skating across the world in 5 seconds on a chocobo (though it would be funny if you could), they have the freedom to make every part something new which is what I think will be the fun in it all especially since you get to build up the characters Team Four Star did a good job with character interactions for FF7 tho that is no surprise there

Here's the biggest reason why I would never be willing to trust this until the game is fully released - it's Nomura. The man absolutely cannot keep to a schedule.

This is true, but Square also had him spread pretty damn thin. With FF15 and Kingdom Hearts 3 over and out, I don't know what else is currently on his plate.

KH3 is getting DLC and whatever next story line they are working on for the next game probably won't see the light of day for about another year or so if that As I said before, this FF is basically our holdover until the next big release which I assume is still about 5 years away so he should be all hands on deck with FF7

Too bad they actually cancelled all the other damn DLC That ended up being a really well done game once they actually finished the story and built on the lore

Yeah, I was really disappointed to hear that. Especially since two of the cancelled DLC's focused on Aranea and Lunafreya. Was also disappointed they shelved their plans for official mod support for the PC version.
It had to do with game's director Hajime Tabata leaving Square Enix just before Episode Ardyn came out. His departure probably hurt the series in general because he was being groomed to be the next guy in charge of the series direction along with FF14 head honcho Naoki Yoshida (aka, Yoshi-P).

While he says there wasn't, I'm inclined to think there definitely had to be some drama behind the scenes that led to his leaving. It just came totally out of the blue and it's not exactly normal to just drop everything and go start your own company overnight in the middle of still technically working on your biggest success. Though maybe it has something to do with his stupid thing about wanting to change how games are developed by somehow using cloud data instead of bringing on more people.

I either don't remember much FF7, or this is basically Disc 1, ending with the Shinra escape/chase

Disc 1 ends with a certain very sad scene and the fight against Jenova LIFE in the Forgotten Capital. Escaping Midgar is like, maybe a quarter of the way into Disc 1.

Could be also enormous pressure. Like, if they go to another studio and make an RPG, it'd be less pressure to make what would be their baby. If they stayed at Square, then they're working on what will probably not be their kid while having people scrutinizing the game very heavily. Like, obviously, Nomura's benefited a lot and has his signature style recognized, but you could end up like Motomu Toriyama who, while still in a good position at Square-Enix, obviously, still got huge amounts of blowback eventually for his directed games. Not to say they don't have their own dedicated fans, but it's got to be very stifling.

You have your full party by the end of Disc 1 except for Aerith. And Vincent and Yuffie if you skipped over them, as they're optional characters.

My concern is how many parts theres gonna be and time between releases Part 1, is apparently the Midgar section and will be as long as FFXIII. Which is great, apparently Midgar is gonna be more, explorable, but thats not a huge section of the original game ... this is gonna be a hell of a long time until fully complete and be at least 8 parts, probably more.

Think I'm passing on this until every chapter is out. I have a distinct fear that they're going to take forever to complete this at best, and move future chapters to the next gen at worst. I'll be waiting for a complete edition first.

I'll be waiting for a complete edition first. I don't think they'll split consoles, just because they really, really want this to sell, and splitting the install base is too dangerous. I don't think Sony would pay them enough to make it worth it. Maybe they'd do some kind of upscaled version, but I remain dubious they'd to that, at least not for a while.

I hope it's just the Midgar part of the game that's greatly expanded upon and the other parts of the game fall more in line with the premise of the original game. I feel like Midgar was the one part of the original game with a lot of missed opportunity for stories and exploration, but outside of a couple of new locations introduced in the compilation like Modeoheim and Banora, the rest of the overworld of FF7 and story is fairly well spoken for.
