Guessing they're going to be majorly cutting some corners on the third one since quite a few rumblings going around that Rebirth flopped sales-wise. Exact numbers will probably come soon but it seems like they lost a ton of money on it.

Been playing for a few weeks. The half of the game that's a straight up remake is a lot of fun. But whoever decided to fill the game with mostly terrible mini games you often HAVE TO do to proceed deserves a kick in the shin.

I purchased FF7 on December 13th 1997. It took me 35 days to finish the game but I loved every minute of it!
I don't have any desire to play Rebirth.

I thought they did a great job of balancing the original story with newer parts (way better than in Remake) but some of the mini games were too much. I loved Queen's Blood though!

Everytime I go to a new area I dread those mini-games as I prefer to fight and take in the story.

Exact numbers will probably come soon but it seems like they lost a ton of money on it. It's just silly comparison. The first one came at the start of the pandemic and at the end of a console life cycle when people had more time and more people could play it. There is still a lack of PS5 adoption out there due to lack of supply and lack of money people have. If they were genuinely stupid enough not to account for that, then it's their own fault. I dont think we'll see much scaled back, but I could see us getting more on disc dlc to squeeze more cash out of people that way.

It's why there's so few true PS5 exclusives that aren't also on PS4 or other consoles these days. There's only been about 50-55 million PS5's sold as of the beginning of the year. Doesn't help that both it and the Series X are still real expensive compared to other consoles this far in their lifespan. Good news is that supply is finally no longer an issue here in the US. You can reliably find PS5's pretty much everywhere now. Can't speak for other countries though.
Granted, I imagine the big payday they got from Sony for console exclusivity likely offsets the poor sales. I also think Rebirth was always likely going to be the biggest game in the series since it covers the meat of FF7, with Part 3 being smaller as it has less material from the original game to cover. I also think Part 3 will be cheaper to develop regardless since a lot of assets like interface, character models, etc. can just be re-used from Part 2.
To add to this: I think $70 base price for games on top of DLC or microtransactions is just outright unsustainable in a consumer market. Big publishers are going to need to find ways to get game budgets until control.

It doesn't help that Squenix always have ridiculous expectations for game sales and then piss and moan about not reaching them when the amount of units they did sell was actually pretty good. It'd be like if AEW bitched every week about how they didn't get 2 million viewers.

{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} Rufus in the Colosseum during Chapter 12 is hard as hell.
Had to turn the difficulty down to Easy to beat him.

Had to turn the difficulty down to Easy to beat him. {Spoiler}I hated that. I also hated the fact you couldn't change the difficulty until you had to hit retry from Rude and Elena fight, which I actually enjoyed. I'm at a chapter 13 right boss battle now and judging by the tone of the story, I feel I'm near the end.

Nearing the end of the game. There's a pretty good action RPG buried under a terrible mini game collection here.

MAJOR ENDGAME Spoilers ahead. {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}Made it to Chapter 14. After the grueling fight against Sephiroth Reborn, I finally made it to the final battle against normal Sephiroth. There's only one problem, I was not expecting Aerith to be a part of the final battle so I removed all of her Materia.. So yeah, I died. I'm gonna call it a day and restart it from the beginning and re-equip some of her materia. The final wave of Reborn was the worst, so I may put it on easy. :/

Just finished it. Storlyine-wise, I enjoyed it for what it was. Though, {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}I'm kinda iffy on the whole alternate universes merging during THAT scene. . As a fan who has played the original countless times, the fleshing of certain areas or characters was really well-done. And there are some scenes that got me emotional as well. My only real negative is those accursed mini-games. The only one I really liked was Chocobo racing, which I didn't even finish because that's a ton of races to do. Also, the less said about Queen's Blood, the better.

This seems most relevant to the big AAA titles, but this was inevitable given SE's sales issues:
Don't know if getting FFXVI and the VII Remake titles on Switch 2 will be practical, but at the very least PC's getting some big focus from SE soon.

Considering AAA games are costing $300 million+ the entire concept of platform exclusive just seems foolish even if you own the Developer/Publisher

Sure, the back story and plot for the quest line was dumb, the game itself is quite fun once you understand how it works. The match with the Queen herself is full of BS but it’s still fun and completely optional. It’s the dolphin mini game that I thoroughly dislike, though I did not care too much for the 3D fighting game either.

Queen's Blood is one of the best FF minigames, right up there with Triple Triad and Blitzball.

Of course the Sony fanboys are losing their minds because... more people will get to play their games?

So I had zero clue how on what I was even doing. Had I known it was completely optional, I wouldn't have even done the boat tournament at all. And after looking up any rewards for continuing the minigame, I realized it wasn't worth the headache so stopped messing with it completely. Same with the moogle houses. On paper, they sound fun. The addition of a time limit makes it the complete opposite. I never completed the Cosmo Canyon or Nibelheim ones. The Fort Condor mini-game is another awful one. I have one more to finish, but I am not motivated to do it at all...
