So I finally got around to reading the issue, what the f***?
Last panel with Rick basically clutching to life is crazy but do you really think they are about to kill him?
Edit: Spoiler for Chapter 192

Maybe. The comic has managed to stay fairly unpredictable.

Nah. If they were going to kill him, they would have just done it. No reason to leave it hanging.

The comic has developed a habit these last few years of ending an issue on a cliffhanger and then dismissing it in literally the first panel of the next issue. I could be wrong, but I don't think Rick is one the way out (though I kind of hope he is, he's become very one note in the comics the last few years)

I don't think they will. I see him being in a coma for a,while, perhaps to test the waters of having Carl or Michonne take the lead.

Kirkman has been teasing Ricks death for a long time now, He was even considering having Shane kill Rick at the start.
I'm a little bit behind on the Comics I must admit.. I have books 30 and 31 I just haven't got round to reading them yet.

It was more noticeable in the collected edition when the next panel was just over the page. One example is that an issue ended with Rick saying something like when a group of people were in trouble "..yes, but they're not our children..." but then the next panel which was 1 month later for the comic buyers, he says "I mean, we'll still help them alright, but just make sure our kids are ok first..."

Maybe. The comic has managed to stay fairly unpredictable. Since the Andrea death they have had the feel of the old TWD comic when shit could happen at any time Rick is a central figure but Kirkman has crippled that man multiple ways and Carl did show he can jump up in role

Rick is dead
Seemed inevitable with how crippled Kirkman made him but it is still a surprise to see him gone. Carl found him and shot him after he was zombified

I liked how Carl channeled his father and Negan in visiting Sebastian in jail

.....wow, I was in my shop at 11am this morning (opening) and did not even see this issue. There was a gap on the shelves where Image books were. I guess people knew this was happening and scooped it up / reserved it ahead of time.

People sensed it with the way the last comics with him getting shot Obviously he's been shot many times before but the assumption was he would be in a coma if anything but they outright killed him Kirkman has said he would kill everyone off before the end of the story and over the last year he's killed off Andrea, Dwight and Rick

I think the series is better as a whole moving on from Rick. It's just weird timing with him recently being written out of the show too. I know Kirkman addressed this at the back of this issue, saying that the tv series had absolutely no impact on his decision to kill off Rick in the comics, and that Rick's death was planned a long time before Andrew Lincoln wanted out of the show, but still, weird timing. I think they've left the door open for a Negan return in the comics now.

Heh, checked another store near me last night and they not only had 192 but 191 as well.
In abundance. Lucky me.
(I gave up on WD several years ago now, but wandered back for Andrea's death.....had to for this one too...)

Holy shit they actually did it!
I'm pleasantly surprised. It's an appropriate death too. Rick going out to something small, and mean, and out of nowhere as a result of stuff he built going too far is pretty much how I imagined him going.

I love that he didn't have a predictable heroic, sacrificial ending.
He was shot in his bed, by surprise, by a dickhead. It came out of nowhere and because he didn't go out in a blaze of glory it felt 1 - More real, and 2 - much more impactful.
The shot of the crowd of people who want to go see him buried was great.

I think the comics will survive just fine without him. I really found him useless since the Saviours storyline and always on borrowed time, what with the missing hand and bum leg. He seemed like a supporting character. Still, the story should end with him. But at least the comic side of the Walking Dead didn’t go and do something stupid like kill Carl.
Besides, who needs Rick when you have Princess??!!

Yea, he went out like any other character would have if they were not the MC which adds weight to it. Carl did not get to say a tearful goodbye, just the shock of his dad being a walker and shooting

Carl did not get to say a tearful goodbye, just the shock of his dad being a walker and shooting Plus the callback to Carl being unable to shoot Rick when he thought he had turned after they escaped the prison was neat and good storytelling. I must hand it to Kirkman, he's an excellent writer who crafts believable events and character reactions. Rick's death was a great example of his talent at both. I'm hoping after the funeral at Alexandria, which might be a 6 issue arc in itself (It looks like we are checking it with Negan for an arc first before Rick's funeral, which would put the funeral taking place on or around issue 200), that there is another time jump. This is Carl's story now, I'd like to see him a little older before the next major arc begins.

That was a terrible decision.
The Walking Dead IS Rick Grimes. The beginning, the ending and the entire story revolves around his POV and experience.
I really hope the TV show doesn’t follow suit when he comes back. I was delighted they bailed out on his death. However I’m enjoying The Whisperers story without him.
I guess The Comics have Carl to take over. But it’s still not the same. I’ve never been a fan of Carl.
