That was a terrible decision. The Walking Dead IS Rick Grimes. The beginning, the ending and the entire story revolves around his POV and experience. I really hope the TV show doesn’t follow suit when he comes back. I was delighted they bailed out on his death. However I’m enjoying The Whisperers story without him. I guess The Comics have Carl to take over. But it’s still not the same. I’ve never been a fan of Carl. Not at all. The Walking Dead is about the world and while yes Rick Grimes has been the big framing device, over the last 2 years or so since the end of the Negan arc he has been phased out to an extent Honestly, you could have always said this is Carl story and Rick was leading him to this moment. He's been shot and Kirkman has said before he thought about having Shane kill Rick early on Carl is ready for this and they still have a good cast of characters around him to continue to make it run as the Whispers arc was his big stepping up moment along with his interactions with Negan before. Carl was always the successor to Rick, which the TV show messed up on Also in regards to Rick on the TV show, he's not coming back there and is his own thing with the movies

Yea, he went out like any other character would have if they were not the MC which adds weight to it. Carl did not get to say a tearful goodbye, just the shock of his dad being a walker and shooting Plus the callback to Carl being unable to shoot Rick when he thought he had turned after they escaped the prison was neat and good storytelling. I must hand it to Kirkman, he's an excellent writer who crafts believable events and character reactions. Rick's death was a great example of his talent at both. I'm hoping after the funeral at Alexandria, which might be a 6 issue arc in itself (It looks like we are checking it with Negan for an arc first before Rick's funeral, which would put the funeral taking place on or around issue 200), that there is another time jump. This is Carl's story now, I'd like to see him a little older before the next major arc begins. Yea, they might as well do another jump in the story like 2-3 years or so after they finish this off with Rick. Give him the sendoff he deserves and it seems by the time issue 200 comes along we should be looking at another "new world" and I am interested as you can continue to tell a story in now which individuals Carl age range is coming of age and taking over their respective towns and villages You're going to see glimpses of Rick and Negan in him which may mean he will go over lines Rick didn't want to but he will also remember his fathers justice. Hopefully, they let Sebastian continue to rot in jail and not give him an easy out such as suicide or his mom releasing him. There is a lot there to tell with Carl torturing him mentally

The Walking Dead IS Rick Grimes. The beginning, the ending and the entire story revolves around his POV and experience. It absolutely isn't. TWD is not about any one character, it never has been. Rick was the most prominent and closest to a protagonist but it was not HIS story. It never was. Kirkman has said as much in past interviews. In this issue alone he says this was something planned for a very long time. He has always said that everybody will die in this story, no one character is bigger than it.

So they finally did it.. Rick Grimes is no more.. and I must agree that I'm glad his death wasn't to predictable.
Whilst I have always enjoyed Rick as a character I look forward to seeing where they go from here without him.
Carl and Sophia are now the comics 2 longest running characters and the only 2 Atlanta Camp survivors that are still alive.
In a way I would actually like to see Carl become the villain or at least an anti hero of some sort.
It be crazy if Negan suddenly became the comics new Main Character..
Kirkman did say that he now knows how he wants to end the franchise.. Also a while back he also mentioned that no character is immune to being Killed off.
But yeah, thanks for the memories Rick but let's see where it goes from here.

The good thing about Kirkman being open and honest is you get an idea of his mindset (sometimes not all the time) but he has always been open about Rick being a central focus but he will die before this story is concluded. It was just a matter of when Everyone will die before this story ends is something he has said a lot and it wouldn't be the Walking Dead without some heartache. Do I like that he killed Rick? Hell no. However, his story was coming to an end and one day Carl, Michonne, Maggie etc... all their stories will come to an end too. The hope is someone can fill the void as he typically does well with that when a big character dies as when Tyresse died, he had Abe take his place and when he died here came Jesus to take his place. Rick has big shoes to fill but with Carl as the MC you have a little different feel to the story and it helps that from a perspective since the Negan war ended, we've gotten a lot from his perspective

Read it today. Wow...I almost thought it was never going to happen. There was a stretch where I got really sick of Rick, but I recently came back around on him and I'll miss him.
Lot of directions they can go now, which is pretty cool. Sad, but cool.

There is a lot there to tell with Carl torturing him mentally I re-read is again last night, about the 5th time I’ve read it already, and noticed there’s a couple panels where Carl is threatening Sebastian and he looks incredibly like Negan. There’s no way that was an accident. I legit said out loud “Holy f***, he’s become Negan” I just wish the Walking Dead didn’t always drop bombs on me right after real life has slapped me in the face. I read issue 100 a day or two after my ex-wife and I separated, Andrea died a couple days after I broke up with a different girl, Rick gets 3 to the chest right after I quit my job and am going through a mental health crisis. Your timing f***ing sucks Kirkman! But man, after a long uninteresting run he’s really got me interested in seeing where this goes now.
