Rock v Triple H is one of my favourite matches ever. Austin coming out at the end to save the day and raise hell is the best example ever of predictable booking being the right booking. Still have no idea why it wasn’t the Wrestlemania main event - but one of the best things WWF/E have ever done. Work of art. I’m guessing it wasn’t the Mania main event because A) they promised Big Show a WM Main Event in his contract, B) they wanted to give Foley a Wrestlemania Main Event, C) they wanted that silly “A McMahon in Every Corner” stipulation, D) Austin probably wasn’t ready. To that last one, Austin could barely walk is it is. Four weeks earlier, he was probably even worse. I wish this would’ve been the WM main event because then it would be better remembered as one of the greatest spectacles they ever did. But the fact that it’s Backlash illustrates how awesome 2000 was in the WWF. They were on fire. Every show felt WrestleMania worthy. Stone Cold did look rough, and like he didn’t really want to be there

What a different time, lol.
Also damn, Billy Corgan was there?

Yeah, the stuff with the Dudleyz putting women through tables (and for no good reason a lot of the time) is one of the few things I don't like anymore from that period.

After 4 years away I started back watching wrestling at Wrestlemania 16.
This was the next PPV i watched at the time. I enjoyed cosplay Show but even as a less than smart fan at the time I never understood why Angle who was in the middle of a big rise was defeated in like 2 minutes in this match. Was there any reasons ever given for this and did the online fans hate it at the time?

This thread made me rewatch this show so I watched the live version cause the wwe network doesn’t have the heat preshow and I like to experience the shows like I would have then.I misremembered I thought Heat was still live on ppv sundays it wasn’t it was matches taped before smackdown where the announcers ignore them to hype the ppv there’s some video packages and they go live backstage to the ppv arena to see Trish with T&A arrive they zoom in as close as possible up her skirt and then to her chest while the announcers lose their minds & perv on her then they air a video package of her in her underwear talking about, rubbing, dancing and crawling on tables and making out with Bubba and then the announcers wonder if she’s really in love with him or is she a devilish woman.Things were very different in 2000.
As for the ppv it was really enjoyable the crowd was super hot.JR & Lawler had excellent chemistry and made the call look effortless its easy to forget what a good team they were.
Debra was drunk so Austin would be proud. She looked way older than usual here.
The opening tag wasn’t anything special nothing terrible just a match.I never was a fan of Road dog & X Pac as a team.
Michael Cole was a skinny goober and seeing Trish seduce him with baby talk was different.I now know what Cole looks like when he’s turned on lucky me I can die a happy confused man.
They show Billy Corgan in the crowd.
Dudleys vs T&A was a fine match but the whole focus with Trish and rightfully so she looked tremendous. Its so weird that a man who beats women is a babyface and cheered wildly for it I didn’t get it then and I still don’t get it now but I don’t like seeing men beat up women so I’m strange that way.Got a kick out of Test post match calling out the medics for trying to cope feels on Trish.
Malenko vs Scotty was a really good match and most likely the best singles match for both guys wwf careers. That top rope ddt looked awesome.
Big Show vs Angle was quick and entertaining for what it was.
Eddie vs Essa was really good and could have gone longer.Man Chyna was over I had forgotten she was a babyface here cause she just turned heel on Jericho the night after mania like a month ago. This is Essa’s swan song as legit competitor as he soon loses Lita and then is used as joke material for various wrestlers.
Jericho vs Benoit was really good with a normally cheap finish that totally worked with the crowd including the post match.I had completely forgotten this match
Rock vs HHH was awesome I had forgotten how good and how hot the crowd was for it and Austin at the end was tremendous he looked like the reason he was late was he spent the last 6 months at the buffet.

Angle lost all the time then He lost at rumble,he lost twice at mania,he lost here,he loses at judgment day in a 6 man,He loses to Taker at Fully Loaded,He loses at summerslam,he loses to HHH at unforgiven and then he wins the title at No Mercy. He was a new extremely talented & entertaining guy with all the potential in the world but they largely treated him like a geek. It was at a time where he showed he was entertaining so they figured he could lose all the time and it wouldn’t hurt him because The Rock was entertaining and lost all the time and he was a megastar....what they didn’t realize was not everyone is The Rock.Angle continued being treated as a geek his whole title reign and then on the final show before he loses the title he’s suddenly a bad ass killer for 1 show.

I remember reading that this is where Trish really won some people over backstage, because she told Bubba not to protect her. She took the table bump like a champ.

I remember reading that this is where Trish really won some people over backstage, because she told Bubba not to protect her. She took the table bump like a champ. She had it rough her 1st couple years she had heat cause she was naive, from outside wrestling, not a good performer at first and a favorite of management among other things.I remember after she retired she did a shoot interview where see put over Lawler & The Kat for being friendly to her when no one else was then they were both gone from the company when she’s doing the vince mcmahon affair angle which got her a ton of heat with the locker room. She said she did the table bump to earn some respect but people were really cold to her and it wasn’t until Stacy & Torrie came in from wcw that people gave trish a break.Lita hated Trish they did not get along at all and it was Stacy showing up and making a move on Matt Hardy that gave Lita a new person to hate and then she started being nice to trish.

I never knew this show was so universally loved. Pretty much everything from January 2000 until the Invasion is. They had a great writer, Jericho found his feet, Angle debuted and the Radicalz jumped ship so the in ring quality skyrocketed. It's one of if not the biggest hot streaks the company ever had, every show was fantastic for 18 months.

I was watching but for whatever reasons I don’t remember it as well as I did 1998-1999 or do the early ruthless aggression era. Probably because I had an attitude era hangover and wasn’t a work rate guy like I am now. What I do remember are the weekly twenty minute Triple H promos. Maybe that’s why I don’t think of this time too much. I was finishing college too so maybe the difficult transition to adulthood has clouded things.

It's a great show in the best year in the history of sports entertainment. Rock & Triple H were just locked in at a different level.

I never knew this show was so universally loved. Really? All I've ever seen is high praise for it. Between the main event, Eddie and Essa, and Malenko and Scotty...this show was top shelf. Like others have said, January 2000 to around June/July 2001, was can't miss.
