Can you say "horrifically overpaid"? I can. I mean how dare the best player in the league get paid... 2 years starting and he's gone to the AFC title game...won a Superbowl. Has regular season and superbowl MVP awards. 5-1 post season record, 23-7 regular season record but hey dude sucks. It'll be even more funny when Dak Prescott is making a number that is close per season.

But even if he wasn't that's still way too goddamned much money and term. That's MLB levels of bad and can very easily backfire dramatically. I wouldn't want that kind of contract in Green Bay even if Rodgers was in his prime because there's just far too much risk. That goes way beyond my personal dislike of any player or organization. If that kind of deal had been made for, say, Lamar Jackson I'd be having the same reaction. Ten years at $40M per is a terrible idea PERIOD.

More Superbowls for the Chiefs have been guaranteed. I personally know about a dozen Packer Fans that said the same thing after Favre won... then again with Rogers... The only thing guaranteed about the Superbowl is that it's hard to win one, let alone more than one.

I hope Maholmes enjoys the SuperBowl he just won
---- with that kind of $$$$ just for him alone on the books for the forseeable future it'll be insanely difficult to surround him with talent

Compensation update: Patrick Mahomesβ 10-year extension is worth $450 million, sources tell ESPN.
The injury guarantee is $140 million, per source.
The contract does not contain language that ties its value to a percentage of the salary cap.
Richest deal in sportsβ history.

wowzers KC cap f***ed themselves The $450M is only for the 10-year extension. They also owe him about $27M for the next 2 seasons. So it's $477M for 12 years, or about $39.8M per year. It's a steal regardless, assuming Mahomes is able to stay healthy and continues to perform like a $50-60M QB. Considering Dak Prescott wants like 37 and what these other guys think they'll get...and the fact that the cap is going to rise quite a bit, I think you're wrong.

Paying that much for any QB is going to f*** you over in the cap. Every team that's paid out the ass for QB's has suffered in other aspects of team-building and even as talented as Mahomes is, the Chiefs likely won't be the exception.
But dude got paid so good for him. He's set for life.

I think in the last few years of the deal if Mahomes is still at an elite level, he will probably be considered underpaid. Doesn't mean it's a bad deal for him, the amount of money and financial security is unprecedented. But I think it's a great deal for Kansas City. You keep the best QB in the league at a fair market rate. In my eyes, he is one of the biggest difference makers I have seen in football.

The #Chiefs and QB Patrick Mahomes have agreed to terms on a 10-year extension worth $503 million, sources tell me and @tompelissero. He gets $477M in guarantee mechanisms and gives the ability for Mahomes to have outs if the guarantee mechanisms arenβt exercised. No trade clause

Literally everybody, and I mean, EVERY. BODY. has been saying that the NFL's salary cap is about to take a significant hit in the years to come due to the financial ramifications that COVID-19 is going to have on the NFL in the short- and possibly long-term, and the Chiefs are out here throwing around $477 million in guaranteed money? ESPN's Adam Schefter estimated that the 2021 salary cap might be reduced by as much as 50 percent, down anywhere from $30 million to $80 million, and that the NFL is looking at an estimated loss in revenue of $3.2 billion if there are no fans in the stands in 2020, which is looking more and more likely with each passing day. Granted, the NFL coould just borrow against future projected earnings from broadcasting rights deals, but that's just robbing Peter to pay Paul. A time like this is literally the worst possible time to be hurling historically-high amounts of money at a player you didn't have to pay. Patrick Mahomes is obviously a great quarterback, but where's the "congratulations, you played yourself" gif when you need it?
