Niners keep Kittle for 5/75! The happiest person in the world right now is Travis Kelce, he and the Chiefs were waiting for that to drop to do his new deal.

Compensation update: Chiefs are giving Pro Bowl TE Travis Kelce a four-year, $57 million extension that ties him to Kansas City for the next six years, per source.
Per source, Chiefs TE Travis Kelce's new deal is a 4-year extension worth $57.25 million, tying him to the team through the 2025. Structure is similar to DT Chris Jones' deal: No new money this year, sizable guaranteed roster bonus due early next year.
I called this one....

the Chiefs are cap f***ing themselves and will need to hit on all their draft picks for the foreseeable future Eh, I think there is this misconception that because the Patriots never paid anyone other than Brady that is the only way to win, that isn't true and I hope the Chiefs keep winning to show hey you can be an organization that pays and rewards your players and also wins.

the Chiefs are cap f***ing themselves and will need to hit on all their draft picks for the foreseeable future There's being in Cap Hell, then there's being in the 7th or 8th Circle of Cap Hell. That's where the Chiefs are going to be.

Niners keep Kittle for 5/75! That's a pretty cheap deal all things considered

That's where the Chiefs are going to be. The 8th circle of cap hell is probably worth the Super Bowl appearances/wins for the next 3-5 seasons, until it all catches up to them.

But look at their contracts lots of 1 year deals, guys that have easy restructure spots, the Chiefs aren't setup to be in cap hell.

Again, ignoring the "the Patriots never paid anyone other than Brady," which is just a flat-out falsehood, the Chiefs are replicating, almost chapter and verse, the method that literally just sunk the Los Angeles Rams and did the same to the New York Jets in the early 2010s. They're giving out gobs of money to a handful of superstars, money that is not infinite and is especially foolish to be giving out this year, when it is becoming crystal clear that fans won't be in the stands, thus costing the NFL probably close to $4 billion in revenue and gashing the salary cap by 50 percent in 2021. Also, and this is part and parcel with the Springfield Tire Fire that is about to become the Chiefs' salary cap, Kansas City just gave four years and $57 million to lock up a player they already had under control for two more years. How appealing is that contract going to look in 2025 when Kelce is 35 years old? Hell, how appealing will that contract look in two years when it kicks in? Because the bad news for Chiefs fans is that according to Bleacher Report's reading of Pro Football Reference's Approximate Value, tight ends begin to decline around year seven, while FFToday's Jonathan Bales charted that tight ends peak at age 29. For what it's worth, Kelce turns 30 this season and is starting his eighth NFL season.

The Chiefs have essentially dished out a ton of guaranteed money for the next 3 years
After that it is a crapshoot because you won't and can't afford to pay people after that. If they can win 3 more SB's during this time then it is a successful gamble. If not, you're looking at what could be 5 long seasons of trying to find someone to play with Mahomes on the cheap
They are going to have to be smart and trade players at their peak they don't intend to sign as well as not trading away their capital

And that's all not even counting if one or more of those big money guys misses major time with injury.

And that's all not even counting if one or more of those big money guys misses major time with injury. And with no OTA's that isn't a guarantee this season isn't a total wash coming off a superbowl season and not having the biggest focus anyway Just in general don't see how they survive with this because their is no way that the cap doesn't take a hit next season thanks to barely to no income coming this year from ticket sales

Kelce is going to be 31 this season. Logic would dictate a tight end in his 30s should start slowing down. There鈥檚 certainly exceptions to the rule but that鈥檚 a tough position.

Hell, Gronk fell off at 29. And I'm trying to think of the last TE who was playing at a psycho high level after 30 and I can't think of one.

Kelce isn't the type that avoids the big hits either. I'm glad to see him get money but damn, that's risky.

Tony Gonzalez Even up until he retired at 37, age 31 and 32 he caught over 95 passes and over 1000 yards receiving From 33 to 37 his least productive season was 70 catches and 650 yards Hell, he was still playing all 16 games
