England on the ropes here against Sri Lanka. A great bowling performance is being met by another, and as I type this, England only have three wickets in hand with 57 runs needed to win.

Sri Lanka win it! Major upset win over the hosts.
England needed to win that one too, as their last three games in the round robin are against heavyweight teams Australia and India, and an always dangerous New Zealand.

And we could be on the verge of a possible all-time upset... Afghanistan are right in this with a massive chance of beating India with 10 overs to go.

It wasnβt to be, Afghanistan fall just 12 runs short. Shami for India claiming a hat-trick with the last three balls of the game.

Australia stay undefeated against England in World Cup cricket. Starc & Berehndorff doing the damage with the ball after another Finch century.

So here in the States, the action is on Willow. Right now they're playing highlights of Australia/New Zealand and England/India back to back until Sri Lanka/West Indies happens.
Still trying to understand most of this. I saw England won after India couldn't score enough runs after 300 pitches.

I suppose that the obvious comparisons can be made with baseball, with both sports being centered around "I'm-a throw this ball at you and you try and hit the shit out of it with a lump of wood to score points". I don't think there'd be too much lost in translation there.

Everything else I'm getting the hang of. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka just finished batting, scoring 338. Okay so "P3" referred to the 3rd stage of powerplays. Now I just need to understand the difference between those.

The powerplays are restrictions on where the bowling team is allowed to positions its fielders (set numbers of players inside & outside of the 30m circle).

The finals are just about sorted out at this point, with Australia, India, England and New Zealand set to play elimination cricket. Pakistan, playing now against Bangladesh, are still technically a mathematical chance, but need a cricket equivalent of winning the lotto ten times at once to oust New Zealand. Basically scoring 400 and and bowling out Bangladesh for zero or something.
The only thing to be sorted out is the 1st (currently Australia) and 2nd (currently India) ranking. The only result that can lead to a change in that rank is if India beat Sri Lanka and Australia lose to South Africa, which will lead to India v New Zealand and Australia v England in the semis. All other results and it'll be Australia v New Zealand and India v England.

The first game got interrupted due to rain. Currently New Zealand is at 211/5 after 46.1 overs. Unless India has a strange day tomorrow, they'll win this easily.

Yeah, as long as Dhoni and Jadeja stay in, they're still a shot. If they get out, it's just about over for them.

New Zealand bowl out the lineup and are off to their second straight World Cup final, with a monster upset.
