Just one of many reasons I loathe streaming services.

I haven't updated iTunes in like 3 years, but it's where I rip my CDs as I don't download music from any store. It's just an interface to me for all my music. They can do whatever they want, I'm not following them along the way. So you just don't update OS X / MacOS in 3 years? Or are you using the Windows version? Windows, yeah. I still use my iPod Touch for my music, so it's just easier to sync the libraries together.

Nooo. I just found my old iPod touch and have started using it as my podcast player when I want to conserve phone battery.

It says there will be new apps to manage content. They won't work on my old iPod touch. At the moment I can still connect to iTunes on the device to put new podcasts on it. They may have a pc based app that'll let me do it though but that's hassle.

Apple is moving away from the obsolete concept of "downloading" music. Not everybody has a smartphone or an unlimited data plan if they do.

From what I gather ITunes Store will still exist to purchase music. It will just use other apps to listen. I have an iphoneX and there are different apps for music/podcasts/movies. Really isn’t bad at all.
I don’t blame apple. To survive you eventually have to evolve and move on. All Tech gets replaced eventually

This is a really good point that needs to be discussed more: Bullshit. People chose digital media. Steve Jobs was a massive audiophile and he didn’t believe people would chose shitty MP3’s over CD quality audio, but consumers bent over backwards to do everything they could to kill CD’s. And when quality cell and internet service became wide spread, consumers bent over backwards to embrace streaming due to space issues in their devices. Netflix hit Canada in 2009 and literally within months, the 3 video stores in the town I lived in went tits up. And the first year of Netflix Canada sucked. Old British sitcoms and Mad Men were the only decent shows, the movie selection was terrible. And I will say, I’m a dinosaur who still clings to physical media. I hate MP3s. I have a massive DVD and BD collection, stacks of records and CD’s and old video games. I absolutely f***ing hate the direction things have gone, but the public has no one to blame but themselves for it. They proudly chose streaming over owning, and downloading over going to the store and buying. They chose digital over having bookshelves full of media, because it was more convenient. If suddenly you can’t watch all the movies you “bought” because something changes, I have no f***ing sympathy for you Yes, I’m a little bitter. I was in the process of starting up a movie store/pizzeria when Netflix launched and I quickly had to pull the plug on the idea. Had a business partner, had had talks with the bank, had a location and everything. Would’ve lost my f***ing house had Netflix launched 6 months later EDIT: Also, that Spotify comment is just asinine. It’s basically like saying Blockbuster was a rip off, because why rent a movie when you can buy it forever? Yeah, he’s right. I could buy some CD’s, at about $15 a pop. Or I could spend $100 a year and have access to literally millions of albums. Spotify is no different then radio, but you can pay a premium to be the DJ. Or you listen for free and they choose the music, like f***ing radio. I understand why digital media got so popular, even if it’s not my cup of tea. But even I’ve had to admit defeat and embrace digital music. Not movies tho, until they physically stop selling blu rays I will continue to buy them. But I am sad that blu ray will likely be the last widely used physical movie media

I always hated iTunes, overpriced and didn't even give good profits to artists. Spotify has been the best since it was released.

When I lost my iPod classic a few years ago, I bought a Sony "Walkman" and a 128GB micro SD card. The remaining iPods with decent storage have cameras on them, which make them useless to me as I can't use them in work for security reasons.
I used iTunes for ripping CDs (which I still buy) and podcasts. Drag & Drop those to the SD card, simple.
I'll find something else to replace that. I'm kinda looking forward to parting ways with Apple entirely soon now. F*** 'em.

I never liked iTunes. Used it one time to get one song. But the program was always slow and glitchy on whatever computer I used it on.
Got a nice sized collection of CDs and rip them if I want a MP3 of a song/album.

I just hope that the new Music app will still work with Ibotta; right now I get one percent cash back for downloading songs or renting movies through iTunes.
It’s not much but hey, it’s cool to get a little something extra for what I would have spent my store gift card on anyway.

I never understood this. I am not an artist. I am a consumer. What’s best for me isn’t what’s best for the artist. The music industry v the artist isn’t my fight. Having access to it is. That being said I agree that physical copies of media is the only way to go. Being held at the whim of companies sucks so badly. My kids were very into watching the Jurassic park films last month. We watched literally all of them multiple times. Tried to this weekend and all but the fallen kingdom had been taken down from ondemand. And I’m still annoyed.

I still use my iPod Touch endlessly.
I'm not wasting my phone battery just to listen to Partners in Kryme's 'Turtle Power' on an endless loop.

I still had some money on my iTunes account, and have no idea how to buy songs now, since I'm not interested in just streaming, or podcasts. I like to clean the house, while listening to my iPod, and use my phone, for Pandora.
