It seems like whenever we have a thread about wrestling in other media at least one new hidden gem gets discovered.
Anyway, I watched Night of the Bloody Apes a little bit ago. It is the English language version of a 1969 Mexican horror movie. It is mostly about a doctor who transplants an apes heart into his son who is terminally ill. This forces him to change into a killing/raping ape at random intervals. A lot of luchadora action is also shown as one luchadora has a somewhat big role in the movie. Although not as big as the movie this is a remake of would lead one to believe. That movie was called The Wrestling Women vs. The Killer Doctor.
It was released by Something Weird Video on DVD. The in-ring action actually looks comparatively good compared to some things you see from the era. Like a fairly crisp looking snapmare takeover. Of course when you see wrestling in a Something Weird Video Title it’s often mud wrestling or just naked/almost naked women rolling around. So it didn’t have high standards to live up to.

i'm watching Ça c'est du cinéma (1951) also known as THE SLAPPIEST DAYS OF OUR LIVES, and it has a clip of a comedy match, haven't a clue who's in it but it has all the tropes .....
and it's very funny

Okay so this was after 1980, but not much. In the last ever episode of Tales from the Darkside the plot is all about wrestling. They have a Hulk Hogan rip-off that has to beat a demon from Hell in a 2 out of 3 falls match.

Mad Bull was a great made for TV movie about wrestling. It did a great job of using wrestling but not mocking it too badly. Had a cameo by a young Regis Phillbin in it as well. Definitely worth checking out.

Paradise Alley from 1978 is a 40s period piece filled with prominent 70s wrestlers including the Funks, Gene Kininski, Dick Murdoch, Ray Stevens, Haku, and the apparently booked Dennis Stamp himself.

The One and Only was also a period piece from the 1950s starring Henry Winkler as a very unFonzy type character.

Pin-Down Girl, aka Racket Girls as seen on MST3k Dozens and dozens of Mil Mascaras, Blue Demon, El Santo epics The old classic serial Undersea Kingdom starts off with a wrestling match. Porky Pig also took to the wresting ring once in a 1937 short. I want to say Woody Woodpecker too. Not only did Woody have one, but it broke kayfabe and literally had Woody rewriting the booking sheet script in the middle of a match. Amos & Andy had a wrestling cartoon as well.

Watching a documentary on Buster Keaton, they showed a sketch he did in the 60s, only showed a couple of seconds, he was in a Roman tag team, tripping over the ropes trying to get his centurion gear off.

I might be wrong, but didn't the original The Wrestler come out in the 70s?
