Yup, got a few problem cavities I put off, mostly due to being busy with other things. So, due to that, I have to go in on Monday to get them pulled. Not really scared of it or anything but I do have a few questions for any of you with experience.
Like am I going to be in any pain? How long before I can eat solid food again? What should I eat? Anything else I should know?
Thanks FAN

Like am I going to be in any pain? Probably. How long before I can eat solid food again? I dunno. A few days. What should I eat? Soft things. Anything else I should know? Remember to note if your shirt is tucked or not. Who knows what goes on when you’re out.

I had all 4 Wisdom teeth taken out at once when I was 15. It hurt, my cheeks were so swollen I looked like a chipmunk for a week. (The bottom ones were impacted sideways, they cut them out of my jaw.)They gave me painkillers I really didn't need. I ate soup, cottage cheese and applesauce the first 3 days after the surgery. Day 4, I was done with that and made a big ass sandwich and devoured it. Every bite hurt, but it was worth it. A week later was back to normal.

Ibuprofen should be your best friend. None of the bullshit pain pills they've ever given me have helped as much as 4 ibuprofen.

I had some pulled and honestly I didn't feel much pain post, particularly after the freezing came down. You'll be swollen and the area might ache, but that comes down after day one. Just take ibuprofen or Tylenol just in case. Normal extractions say you should avoid solids for at least a couple days. Soups, yogurts, puddings and anything nice and soft should be fine. Just maybe avoid hot liquids for a while. Do not touch the affected area with your tongue, at least until you get your stitches taken out or they dissolve. You need to let the spot clot and if you mess with it it can cause a painful condition called "dry socket". Rinse the area with salt water every few hours. Helps clean and heal it faster.

Had a tooth pulled before and it really wasn’t bad. Nuked me with novacaine, gave me some gas, then basically stuck a pair of pliers in my mouth and ripped it out (far and away the most jarring part but I was too out of it to care much). Pain pills for a couple days and you’re golden. Don’t sweat it.

I had 1 tooth pulled it really is worse in your own head than it ends up being
They gave me novacane injected it into my gums (f***ing hate needles) but the numbness kicks in almost instantly and from there you feel nothing outside of the pressure used to extract the tooth.
I was able to eat and drink just a few hours later and that was that.

They should give you a prescription for painkillers. Take the painkillers right away when you get home and lay down or just relax for the rest of the day and the next day if you can. You should feel better within a day or two.
I only needed to take one dosage of the painkillers to dull the pain for the hours right after the teeth were pulled. I felt a lot better the next day, and totally fine within like two or three days.

Are you being knocked out, or getting it done in the chair?
If you're going to be awake, my advice is wiggle your toes when they start putting needles in your gums, it helps keep your mind off the pain. From there it doesn't actually hurt while they're doing it, but definitely take a painkiller post-op before the local anaesthetic wears off. It's easier to pre-empt pain than try to deal with it after it started.
Eat lots of soft food, but make sure you don't eat or drink anything that you need to suck, as this can dislodge the blood clots in your gums, which is incredibly painful. Gently swish salt water around your mouth after you've eaten.
Take it easy when you get home - you might bounce right back, or need a day or two on the couch. (I had my wisdom teeth taken out two a time, both in the chair with just a local anaesthetic. After the first pair of extractions I was back at work the next day; I needed a few extra days after the second pair were taken out.)

I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled at once when I was 18. The advice in here is sound-- soft foods for awhile, and yeah, expect to take it easy for awhile. I had mine done on a Friday and spent the weekend in bed mostly, but antibiotics were never my friends. If you bounce back sooner, awesome. Just don't push yourself.

They wanted to lance then and there but I had swelling like I got punched by Mike Tyson. I said to give me the antibiotics and let the swelling go down a bit over the weekend, Ill go back monday. They said they'd lance whatever was there monday and while im all numbed up, might as well pull the problem teeth. Not going to lie, my teeth are bad, mostly depression and me being dumb. I'm going to honest with you FAN. I'm going to get them all pulled and have dentures, not due to drugs or anything. Just me being dumb and not taking care of myself.

I had 5 teeth pulled a few months ago... so..
Will I be in pain? Depends I really didn't have much pain my friend who had his wisdom teeth out was basically dead to the world.
The oral surgeon will likely prescribe aspirin and a major pain med to be safe.
Eat. Ice cream. cold and soft so it helps a lot.
I was told DO NOT eat anything hot, if you want soup or something go for room tenp
Solid foods... start working them in slowly. But like after a day or two you should be ok.
Stock up on salt, you are likely going to have to do a salt water rinse to prevent anything from being stuck in the hole while it heals.
Dont be alarmed if some of the salt rinse comes out your nose if you are getting top teeth pulled.
Oh no straws for at least 24 hours longer is probably better but sucking motion can break the blood clot in your mouth which would mean more blood.

Good luck with it; be sure to look after yourself after it's done (I've read about how insanely painful a dry socket is, so at minimum, make sure you take care of yourself to avoid that). I can sypathize with your situation. When my depression hits hard taking care of myself goes out the window, including brushing my teeth. Don't be too hard on yourself - it doesn't mean you're dumb. Some of us just have a brain that likes to f*** with us, and you do (or don't do) whatever you need to, to get through a rough patch.

I normally eat soup and stuff like 10-20 minutes later after it cools down anyway. Who likes burning their mouth? lol It's bottom row on the right, I'll be real, I haven't been able to chew on that side for a good year. As for straws, I'm not worried about that, I'm worried about smoking. I still smoke cigs and I know I should quit.

I had a wisdom tooth pulled because it caused me so much pain. The dentist had to cut it in to four pieces to get it out and all I felt was pressure. Zod bless whoever invented Novocain. I was sore and swollen for a few hours but I was eating regularly at the end of the day.
More than anything I felt relieved the damn thing was gone.

I'v learned to actually enjoy this. They will drug you and you likely won't feel anything. One time they accidentally stuck my tongue with the needle and I was high as a kite.

Just make sure you actually wear your dentures like you are supposed to, even if it's uncomfortable. If you don't, you can develop problems with your jaw getting messed up and stuff when you have no teeth. Also, even though you won't have teeth anymore, make sure you take care of your gums really good from now on to avoid disease and stuff.

As someone who's had about 14 teeth pulled in my life (adult teeth had a bad habit of coming in before baby teeth came out, plus all 4 wisdom teeth), I can say this:
- the area will be a little raw for a few days.
-unless it's impacted, you'll likely just need local anesthetic. The needle gives a slight pinch, but the actual tooth pulling shouldn't hurt. Also shouldn't have to worry about swelling.
-give yourself a few days for solid food. Nothing super hot, like soup. Milkshakes are a good idea.
