As a kid in the late 1990s, it shocked me that Sable was only in her late 20s, early 30s during her big WWF run. I always thought she was in her 40s. This. When she debuted she looked to be about 42 (I’m now older than that myself by two years), and I wondered why there was so much fanfare about her compared to Sunny.

This thread has got me thinking, how frequently have wrestlers fudged their ages to prolong their career, or to be taken more seriously by promoters or fans by seeming younger or older than they actually were? I know Ahmed Johnson and the Boogeyman both shaved a few years off their real ages, and I believe Batista did too. It's rife in the entertainment industry, what's to say it isn't going on in wrestling? Yeah, I think those three are the only examples I can think of off the top of my head, though you also have some guys who pretended to be older in order to get booked for the first time, like Jeff Hardy wrestling Razor Ramon when he was like 16 on a Raw, because Chief Jay Strongbow was a complete moron.

Ric Flair in 1992 was 43, when I assumed he was much much older. Years later I see him in WCW and i'm thinking has this man aged? Why is he still doing the same thing in the ring? How old is he? Am I watching a 70 year old wrestle?? Ric Flair my wrestling engima who I never understood. I always found it interesting that he looked the same from like the early 90s to 2003ish, then suddenly aged like 15 years. I guess years and years of partying hard caught up with ol naitch I think he was a victim of the WWE schedule. He was pretty much a part-timer during the last eight years of WCW due to their limited house show schedule, so he'd only be on the road 10-12 days per month. When he returned to WWE he went on the road full time, double the dates in WCW, and within a year or so had aged horribly.

The Rock and Roll Express in the mid 80s, I thought were in their late 30s, when in fact they were in their late 20s, early 30s.

Right, and obviously Mass Transit is another. I think it's probably a lot more common than the handful of names we've come up with here, wrestling has historically been full of people you look at and think they look far older than their years. Some may not have aged especially well but it wouldn't shock me in the slightest to find that others had lied about their ages for whatever reason. If it can happen in legitimate sports and entertainment, I see no reason to believe that it's not been done in wrestling, especially in the twentieth century when the industry was a lot more clandestine than it is now.

I am actually shocked Luna Vachon was 31 when she debuted in the WWF, I kind of had her pegged for mid 20's as it felt like she was brought in as Sherri's younger replacement, I am sure she was calling her an old hag in interviews. Sherri was 35 then so not much a difference between them

Hmmmmm Could it possibly be that Sable had those massive implants. PLus IIRC Sable came out wearing way less clothing than Sunny ever did. Sure Sunny was popular but it feels like to the 13 to 35 males Raw was drawing they thought Sable was hotter. When Sable's Playboy issue came out I was going to my local comic shop a few times a week. Watched at least 5 high school kids try to convince the comic shop owner that their parents had no issue with the teens buying the Sable Playboy. The owner was smart and didn't sell it to them.

I know of 5 different wrestlers in MS that started at the ages of 15 or 16. When in MS you have to be 18 to wrestle. They got away with it cause the commission rarely comes to shows. Plus 3 of the guys looked much older. Like Paul Riot. Just recently found out first time I met him he was only 15. But he looked in like he was mid 20s. If you are a teen that can grow decent facial hair it isn't hard to look older than you are. From when I was 15 until I was 20 I passed for mid 20s.

For a more recent one, finding out that Drago is only a couple years younger than Rey Mysterio and has been wrestling since the late '90s. When he debuted in LU he didn't look at all out of place with the younger generation of guys like Fenix and Penta.
