Was bit of an athlete growing up and made most of the team's I tried out for. But man, golf is a game I have never been able to be remotely good at. Took lessons, played for years, played on easy courses and still never shot better than a +10.
Like for these guys to play 72 holes without making any big mistakes is insane to me. If you miss a ball by a 10th of a degree you have screwed up your entire tournament

imo, if you never pick up a baseball or swing a bat before the age of 8, you'll never develop any competent skill.

Seeing as how you have eleven guys trying to kill you on every play, football is pretty crazy. Plus, you're basically getting a mild concussion on every snap if you're on the line.

imo, if you never pick up a baseball or swing a bat before the age of 8, you'll never develop any competent skill. Think about this, if you get a hit 30% of the time, you're incredibly successful. No other sport has that. You complete 30% of your passes, you suck as a QB. You make 30% of your shots, you suck as a shooter.

Hockey is really hard. Hitting in baseball is really hard. You can be an awful pitcher and still look the part. Hockey is hard because you have to learn an entirely different skill (skating) than the game itself (stickwork, defense, shooting). Not like football or basketball or baseball where running is universal. Basketball is easy to pick up, but the athletic trees that play well or quick smaller guys would shut you or me down in an instant. Football is easy as well, it's just basics. Catching, blocking, tackling. It's physically taxing, but the work isn't impossible. Hitting a 80+ mph curve or 95 mph fastball is really, really f***ing hard. Goalie in hockey is impossible for a lot of people. Outside of that, I'd say like cycling or gymnastics. Both are things that even if you tried them from a very young age, it's gonna be real hard to get good at them.

The thing about Hockey is having to be a Tough SOB on top of it, and to be a really freaking good stater, before you can even think about stick work, puck control, and stuff. The stories of all these players that play with broken jaws and torn knee ligaments and so on you hear more about it Hockey than any other sport. I believe Hockey and Football in a non combat sport you have to be insanely tough to take those hits alone.

Ii never played but we had a field day in High School and i could throw a baseball 73 MPH and it was the second fastest in the school. I think being able to throw hard and accurate and have a bunch of different pitches is the toughets thing to do in sports

I’ll say hockey.
For a lay person, anyone can kind of play golf, swing a bat, play some flag football.
If you can’t skate, you can’t play hockey.
As far as pro, I don’t watch anything besides hockey so I can’t really comment on that.

I think all sports are difficult in their own right. However, I always tend to think hockey has the edge with this question. It has aspects of football and basketball and adds weapons. Oh, and it's played on ice, too.

Water polo, incredibly physical, cardio hell, cannot touch the bottom or its a turnover. Give it a try not for the faint at heart.

It's one thing to just be able to throw hard, but to accurately locate pitches and then learn/succeed at different types of pitches is incredibly difficult. When I was younger, I could throw the ball well on the field, but pitching was a different monster as the margin for error is much smaller.

Rugby and cricket. Got all your pitching, right ? Now do that while bouncing the ball off a run-up.

Hardest thing to do in sports is to make square contact with a round bat on a round ball while the pitch is spinning away/towards/down from you or going 90+ MPH. For anyone who has never seen a major league pitch up close, take the opportunity sometime. A slow pitcher in MLB has a fastball about 88-90 MPH, watching that from the 4th row was like watching a speeding bullet, now add 10% on top of that to get to a best in class fastball (i.e. Justin Verlander in his prime) and it's terrifying.
There was a documentary called "Fastball" on Netflix that talked a lot about the physics and limitations of the human body. It was absolutely fascinating to me, but I'm a geek for stuff like that.

Oh and while on paper it's a pretty easy sport to play, association football seems grueling for a professional or high-level amateur player.

Aussie rules footballers seem like they have to be crazy good athletes. Don't know enough about it to be sure but they wear tiny kit, hit hard and never stop.
Some of the winter sports too I suppose.

Cmon guys, the answer is clearly golf. Hit a 2 inch ball with a 4 foot stick, into a 4 inch hole that's 300 yards away.
Having played for years, I'm quite certain that pro golfers have each sold their souls to the devil in return for god-like golfing ability.

I never thought golf would be as hard as it is. I tried it for a few months, and I think I hit the dirt more often than I hit the ball.

If you miss a ball by a 10th of a degree you have screwed up your entire tournament Golf is mainly hard because getting good at it requires a lot of money to get the requisite practice in. The equipment is expensive, especially the really good gear. The greens fees in order to play a round is expensive. The way to get around greens fees (club membership) is even more expensive. What's more, you have to spend a lot more time to get the repetition in. After all, if you are practicing basketball by playing a scrimmage game, you can get in all of your requisite motions in fairly quickly during that scrimmage. Doing it multiple times amplifies that effect. If you are practicing by playing a round of golf, most of your time is spent getting to the next shot (especially if you are playing a course without golf carts, which the pros HAVE to do).
