I saw this thread title and I knew exactly what this was going to be because I still remember this promo. heh... Looney Tunes on Nickelodeon was so much fun after they got rid of Bosko and got the rights to better cartoons.

But still no Private Snafu (I wonder if any of those low-budget UHF stations tried to air Snafu cartoons back in the day, they are all public domain after all).

They could have aired them as filler if they had a print or tape of them handy I suppose. It's not impossible that it happened, but it seems more likely that they'd just air a more common Looney Tunes short instead.

There was a pretty interesting Tiny Toons episode once where Babs did research on Bosko’s girlfriend Honey due to a lack of female toon role models (pre-wackier Lola, and they weren’t really doing much with the Honey Bunny concept), and they were both understandably redesigned from their prior blackface-inspired models. Can’t think of much else Warner Bros has attempted with the characters since.

Looney Tunes on Nick!? *for context I was born in 1989 and am from the UK* Yep, it happened. I also knew what this thread was about when I saw the title. Even as a kid, the Bosko cartoons seemed really boring to me. When I saw the commercial promoting the “new” Looney Tunes on Nickelodeon, I remember thinking “yeah, now this is more like it!”

For a while I think Looney Tunes were the only thing that aired both on Nickelodeon and Nick at Nite.

Looney Tunes on Nick!? *for context I was born in 1989 and am from the UK* Basically as Nickelodeon grew in popularity in the US through the 80's, they wanted in on the Looney Tunes shorts market. But the big three networks (CBS, NBC and ABC) had a gentlemen's agreement going where all the really classic shorts from their glory days were carved up into three separate packages that the networks rotated between each other every couple of years. Nickelodeon was kinda stuck with the leftovers. This included some classic era stuff, but for the most part it was stuff like really old, black and white Bosko and Buddy stuff, some early colorized Porky Pig cartoons, and their forgotten 60's output, which included shorts they outsourced to DePatie-Freleng (better known for the Pink Panther cartoons). As a person who loves forgotten and obscure parts of various franchises, I loved it, but I was apparently very much in the minority. Eventually Nickelodeon became too big to settle for scraps and cable in general just dug into the children's television market too much for the Networks to maintain their monopoly on Looney Tunes shorts. The traditional Looney Tunes packages got broken up and classic era shorts started show up on cable television, leading to Nick starting their "Sorry Bosko" campaign around 1992.

what about Cool Cat? Let's fight the real enemy here... As a child I thought Boscko was a monkey. I imagine my surprise when I found out what he REALLY was supposed to be. Little wonder they had to stop showing those cartoons.

Looney Tunes on Nick!? *for context I was born in 1989 and am from the UK* I read this briefly as “Looney Tunes On Nicki?” Now I want Daffy Duck to cover Roman Holiday.

Yes, but mostly because Buddy himself was an old character from back in the day. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddy_(Looney_Tunes)

My dad used to like bosko and buddy. I mean, they aren't terrible cartoons or anything but they just aren't quite as much fun as Bugs and friends to me.
