I remember the game. When I got a choice to get a Playstation or a dog, I chose the former. Where the Playstation was bought, I was given the choice of five free pirated games, as pirated PS1 games were super common place here. Even big toy stores sold them. Anyway, I got three or four games of my choice, pretty much chosen randomly since I didn't know how to choose; Crash Bandicoot 2, Tekken 2, Biohazard (because it was the Japanese version that was only available), and Rush Hour (the racing game, not the movie). For my sister I picked Spice World (or was my sister there and chose that alongside Rush Hour?).
I did not know the word disappointment before that. But I certainly felt it when I saw the game being played.

AVGN should do the Spice Girls game..
I remember the timing of it. It came out just as Geri quit the group, effectively breaking up the group in the process.

PushingUpRoses did a really good review of the Spice World game:
(I'm throwing a Language Warning up just to be on the safe side).

My sister was about 9/10 when Spice Girls came on to the scene so she loved them and had every bit of merch she could. I thought they were terrible and the movie was awful. Remember hearing Wannabe for the first time and thinking it was the worst pop song I had ever heard and that these ladies would be gone quickly. I was wrong.
It was crazy how massive they became and how long that success lasted though. Weird compassion but I think they are kinda like Steve Austin in terms of getting massive quickly and then it dying down.

I enjoyed the movie, though I think Josie and the Pussycats was in some ways a more well thought out parody of some of the stuff that was getting poked fun at in the Spice World film.
Game is something that is a complete ripoff if it sold for anything more than maaaaybe 20 bucks new. Even that's pushing it for how shallow the game is.

I think the thing to remember is at one point the things we love are probably unfunny and dumb to older generations. I regret making family members watch Full House as a child because I can see how sugary and insipid the show is. Likewise I hated All That when it came on and now 90s nostaglia is here and All that is coming back. I didn't like the Spice girls but Ginger Spice and Baby were super hot to me.

I look back at my younger self's obsession with boy bands and the Spice Girls as a sort of dork age for me. I have the game. If you want to waste some time it's not terrible, but yeah, it's not great.
The movie was actually kinda fun, though I associate my going to see it with my sister being a bitch. I mean, who in the hell buys popcorn but doesn't get anything to drink?

I have this grim feeling the new animated movie is going to resemble the Playstation graphics.

And it's such a shame that Josie bombed because it's genuine satire and a pretty funny movie. I guess nobody expected it to be mocking the sort of stuff that people expected it to praise.
