Writing this after several goes at both the Tidal Basin mission on Heroic difficulty and The Raid in The Division 2. Either one is incredibly hard and represents a big difficulty spike if you're just a casual player (like me). So what levels in games proved to be the ones you remember for just how difficult they were? Did any make you give up and take a break from a game before going back?
*Honourable mentions for Arkham Knight's Riddler racetracks and Ghost Recon Wildlands' Splinter Cell mission...

Anyone else read "The Raid" as "Tim Reid"?

Water Temple
The level in Goldeneye where you escort Natalya and she constantly runs in front of your weapon in the middle of firefights

Dynasty Warriors 4 Nanman Stage, while the game has several frustrating levels, the Nanman level is the one i have the most hatred, skipping it whenever it comes up.

There's a few in Urban Reign on the PS2, but the 3rd to last level takes the cake. It's 2 on 2, you and a CPU partner versus 2 of the big villains, Napalm 99 and Golem. And when I say "big", I don't just mean important. Both guys look like they're over 300 lbs of pure muscle, and Golem is especially bad because pretty much every "that level" in Urban Reign involves him. Both are incredibly strong and durable to begin with (Golem in particular has the second highest stats in the game, next to the protagonist when fully leveled up), and both have a buff where they get both an increase in damage and defense, with the defense boost also giving super armour. Basically, when they use their buffs, they dish out extra damage, shrug off all your strikes, and take less damage from your grapples.
The next level involves fighting one-on-one against a Yakuza boss with a Sephiroth-sized katana who can take off half your health with one move. This is still somehow easier.

The flight school levels in GTA: San Andreas bring that games momentum to an almost complete standstill.

The flight school levels in GTA: San Andreas bring that games momentum to an almost complete standstill. This guy right here speaks the truth. Flying in that game is damn near impossible.

The part where you have to shoot asteroids in the first "Dead Space" game. I've lost count of how many times I died during that part.

Battletoads. Turbo Tunnel. Nuff said.
Also it seems like every 3D Grand Theft Auto game has this sort of gatekeeper level that blocks progression through some absolute bullshit. Like this:

NES. Ninja Turtles. Dam. Bombs. Damn bombs. NES Battletoads-snakes level NES Bucky O'Hare-Lava level. The TMNT Dam level I played enough that I figured out a rough pattern to get through it and not die.

The train level on Uncharted 2 took me a while to get right, but it was mostly fun. However, I hated the first set piece fighting the blue guardian guys.
It took me forever to beat the second Wall Demon in Final Fantasy VII, but that was because I'd missed the Shell materia. So had to reload an earlier save to get it, and then the battle was easy.
The remote control helicopter mission on GTA: Vice City was a pain as well.
Playing Xenon as a kid, I don't think I ever got off the first level
