David Starr and GCW owner Brett Lauderdale call out MLW's Court Bauer for low ball offers to talent ($100-$150 per show) and bringing them in a day early and not compensating them for the extra day of work. They're working minimum wage dead and Bauer refuses to let them out of it. Talent are also backing up Sami Callihan over his departure.

Say what you want about Brett Lauderdale (he used to give the results of matches to fans during his tenure as a CZW ref) but in GCW I havent heard of one complaint about pay. Real scummy on their part if theg dont pay their talent

I've seen some references in the past few months about how MLW doesn't pay for pre-tapes

That's pretty shitty to hear. I.liked that MLW has been putting a consistent product out there, but they ought to treat their talent right.

Is GCW Game Changer Wrestling? Thought Danny Demanto owned it.

That’s a shame. First I heard of MLW Pay being bad. Joey Janela knocked them on Twitter a while ago over it.

If it's a bad contract, then don't sign the contract. I don't understand the difficulty in this logic.

If it's a bad contract, then don't sign the contract. I don't understand the difficulty in this logic. The problem is that bad contracts are rarely obviously bad ones at their face, or no one would sign them, since no shit. They become bad contracts due to broken promises, shady writing, or unforeseen circumstances. Like, the Lucha Underground one, for instance, ended up being particularly shitty for a lot of people because the show's airing pattern was so ridiculously inept. If it had aired in a timely fashion, a lot of people would have been out much sooner and not trapped. It's reasonable to expect that a show wouldn't go years between seasons, for example, yet they got f***ed on it.

Okay, for real, anyone who willingly signs a contract that bad should not be handling their own negotiations. Furthermore and much moreso, anyone offering a contract that bad should have dicks drawn on their face every morning. This is pure exploitive nonsense that has no place anywhere near wrestling.

Like, literally the prime purpose of a contract this bad is to exploit wrestlers that are bad with their money or so desperate they don't think. I can't help but think of athletes who get signed to huge contracts and who still end up broke, due to washing out and not having a career, or being exploited, etc. Wrestlers definitely need to unionize or otherwise get people to advocate for them, or you're just going to get more of this shit. I do hope that more stories like this get wrestlers questioning the way they're being treated and the terms they sign on for, and hopefully get more savvy.

So, Some of these guys/gals are signing a contract where they earn $1,200 for the year?

If it's a bad contract, then don't sign the contract. I don't understand the difficulty in this logic. Wrestling is an industry that reinforces and glorifies being taken advantage of. Paying your dues by cramming ten in a van to go four states over for a $25 payday is the expected outcome of this path to get into wrestling. It's to prove you have passion and prove you're devoted and willing to climb up the same shitty way those who came before you did. Especially if there's little, hidden problems catching people; block tapings working extra shows per day for the pay of one, being told to come in a day early, tons of little bites and extras and expectations you have to live up because it's 'how it works'. The industry has been running a racket on the wrestlers a very long time.

If it's a bad contract, then don't sign the contract. I don't understand the difficulty in this logic. Companies have exploited workers for years based on things like "It's rude to discuss your salary" and "You have to pay your dues." A lot of people don't KNOW they have a bad contract.

Between here, WWE, and TNA, it's getting real hard to compose thoughts that aren't just banging my fist on the desk singing The Internationale. This is shit.
