Sound mixing maybe? So many times I feel like I gotta ride the volume controls like a bucking bronco to watch a movie at home. That or alternate between struggling to hear the dialogue and wincing at the music/sound effects. I hate this so much. I understand the desire for a high dynamic range in your sound mixing, but maybe provide more options for those of us that don't have a high quality surround setup at home or something. My soundbar is pretty nice but it still has to be adjusted constantly to keep the balance right.

Telling an original story? It seems like damn near everything released nowadays is a reboot or a sequel.

But they were just greatest hits of the 70s and 90s. They didn't have any original songs. I get what you're saying, like I Don't Want to Miss a Thing for Armageddon or Kiss From a Rose for Batman Forever. I'm sure I had a few movie soundtrack CDs for just one or two of the songs included, original or not. Most recent big ones I can think of are Despicable Me 2 with Happy by Pharell Williams, or maybe Trolls with Can't Stop the Feeling by Justin Timberlake (I never saw the movie so I don't know if it is actually performed in the movie like a musical). I doubt many people sought out the soundtrack as opposed to just the song though considering the way music consumption has changed. Most of the big movie songs will either be from musicals (Disney or otherwise) or will be theme songs like with the Bond movies. A Star is born was known for The shallow song. Suicide squad had Heathens. It’s a lost art for sure but not gone entirely.

Parodies. Went from classics like Blazing Saddles, Airplane to crap like Date Movie I mean, they had bad parodies back then, too, but they weren't worth remembering. Not a lot of people clamoring for Dickie Goodman nostalgia.
