Love him or hate him, it has become fairly evident that John Cena was a huge part of what kept the WWE ship afloat for the past few years. Since he has gone onto Hollywood (and good for him), the company has been in a complete nose dive in ratings, attendance, and other metrics. Hypothetically speaking, if John Cena decided to quit acting and go back to WWE, would it make any measurable difference in the numbers? Mind you, I'm not talking about "midcard/guest star" John Cena. I'm talking about Super Cena. If he were willing to return and they pushed him as the number one top guy, could he save the company?

No. The guy's 42 and has rushed back from injuries during his career. A full time schedule where he would be the center of everything is just asking for trouble. And that's not factoring backlash from the fans and sacrificing potential stars for it to happen.

I don't think they need "saving" but haven't the ratings and stuff been in a steady decline since Cena became the man like 15 years ago?

True, but Cena era ratings, while not on the level of the Attitude Era, were a lot better and more stable. The Cena focused shows generally got around 3 point something in the ratings. Today's shows are generally 1 point something in the ratings. They are getting lower ratings than some of the TNA shows from the Spike TV era. I could be entirely wrong, but I feel like Vince McMahon would kill for Cena era ratings these days.

Best case scenario would be he moves the needle temporarily then the ratings go back to what they are

Yeah, bring back the guy that made millions stop watching. Vince McMahon is already there, silly.

If bringing in John Cena would prevent the steady decline of traditional TV ratings, better companies than WWE would be trying.

I take it this tweet is the inspiration for this thread...? Yes! If I knew how to embed tweets, I would have credited it in the OP.

No, the problem is the writing. They could have current mega stars if they pushed people properly.

The Rock is part of that too, he took a lot of really shitty material and still made people cheer for him because of how gifted he is, he also did a bunch of 50/50 stuff and he could always survive it because he was bullet proof, it's like they think everyone can survive that shit like he did when in reality it only worked because he was special.

Only if he finally gets his Hollywood Hogan run. Bringing Cena back to do the same old shit will do nothing. You have to give the fans a reason to talk about the product. Then again, the angle will be garbage if Vince is producing it so......

No, no one thing is going to save them. You could do John Cena vs MechaCena and it's not going to save them.
They need to find something that gets hot, go with it and write logical stories including and not including that thing.
Look at the RAW viewership over the past three weeks. They lost around 200k viewers to the NBA finals. The next week, only 100k of those 200k returned. People go do something else one week, and then they don't feel the need to come back to RAW.
They need to come to terms with they're going to eat shit ratings for the next six to eight months until they regain the confidence of people.

NO MORE PART TIMER SHIT!!!! Yeah, that's kind of the point of the OP. Hypothetically, if John Cena came back full time, would it make a difference?

One person is not going to help.
Cena can elevate a lot of the terrible stuff they give him to say... but he's still only one guy.
Even then with some of the stuff they gave him the last time he showed up like bitching that he didn't have a mania match and stuff didn't help him at all.

He might slow the bleeding, but he’s not turning things around Yeah at most it would be a band aid.
