Ratings might go up for a week or two, but once people start seeing it's (probably) going to be the same old shit they'll go back to what they are now IMO.

Love him or hate him, it has become fairly evident that John Cena was a huge part of what kept the WWE ship afloat for the past few years. Since he has gone onto Hollywood (and good for him), the company has been in a complete nose dive in ratings, attendance, and other metrics. Hypothetically speaking, if John Cena decided to quit acting and go back to WWE, would it make any measurable difference in the numbers? Mind you, I'm not talking about "midcard/guest star" John Cena. I'm talking about Super Cena. If he were willing to return and they pushed him as the number one top guy, could he save the company? No.

I take it this tweet is the inspiration for this thread...? Yes! If I knew how to embed tweets, I would have credited it in the OP. I'll add spaces so you can see the visual of it (only space you use is between twitter & url) [ twitter url = and then the full URL (whatever 'copy link to tweet on Twitter' gives you) here ]

Besides maybe the two week bump he might help Merch sales... but that would require the people making them to not be awful Yeah, bring back the guy that made millions stop watching. They did, now he's Mr Money in the Bank... And Vince never left.

He’d be back to being another guy on TV in a matter of weeks. Just a more famous guy on TV.

Nope. The "push Cena at all costs" era is the reason theyre in this mess to begin with. And I say this as a fan of John's.

Ratings would go up slightly so they'd avoid doing all-time low numbers seemingly every other week like they have been doing and shows he's on would sell more tickets but in the grand scheme of things nothing would change. No one person can take WWE in its current form and completely turn it around.

There's maybe a dozen guys out there who could give WWE a shot in the arm if they were wrestling more often, and Cena's one of them, but it's still just a bandaid on top of a stale, unappealing product. A few ratings spikes will delay the downward trend, but they're not turning things around without a massive creative overhaul.

I think the real question is could any wrestler in their prime do anything for that show right now?
With how everyone is neutered by having no character and how storylines no longer matter I don't even think Steve Austin in his prime could say them, it would take 2 weeks of being made to look like a dumbass and losing before no one cared.

Cena can't stop the bleeding right now. He might create a small bump, but they need a new face to be THE guy. I do think he doesn't get enough credit though for at least being a star when they had few of them during his decade on top. Now you could argue that it was in part because of the booking and that other guys could have filled his shoes, but I think he did a damn good job as the top guy. There's a reason my friends who don't follow wrestling closely ask about him. The kids I work with at school remember him even if he's barely around. House show numbers always jumped when he was in town. His merch always did killer numbers. I think a large reason behind the issues they're facing now are due to a failure to replace him. Sure, Cena put over some guys recently, but it never felt like they got the bump from it. I like Reigns but he's not a Cena level draw and Cena already wasn't a Rock level draw so that's a huge hole for them right now.

The thing about Stone Cold is that he wouldn't stand for being made to look like a dumbass though. Also the whole reason he walked out was giving away the Brock match for free with no build which is pretty much their trademark now so he probably wouldn't last long anyway! haha.

They've hit a point now where talent really can't even stand up for themselves, it's rather sad.

nope. long term booking of one guy being the sole focal point of everything is part of why the ratings are so low, from cena to roman the reliance on the one big star with a massive gap to the next tier of star is where they've pushed away the fan base so much.
there's a reason why "lol cena wins" meme here was a thing, sure he'd lose sometimes but you knew it was only a matter of time before he was back as the main focus of the show. they only created a big bad for super cena to over come then shove that person down the card. no one else was really given a crack at being the next big thing for longer than a few months.
they're still following a broken formula in that way ( with roman being the sole true main eventer.), bringing back super cena as the focus of the shows is only going backwards for diminishing results as that booking is what has forced away fans and cena isnt getting younger and no matter who you are, you cant fight nature.. look at undertaker's last few years it's not been pretty, eventually cena would end up in the same boat.

NO MORE PART TIMER SHIT!!!! Yeah, that's kind of the point of the OP. Hypothetically, if John Cena came back full time, would it make a difference? NO MORE PART TIME OR FULL TIME JOHN CENA SHIT!!!!
