Was talked about for a while in the dirtsheets but it's pretty much official now.
Seems to pretty much be the same deal as they had with Sky with PPVs being shown on BT Sports Box Office.

How long has that Sky deal lasted? 25 years? More? Think it's closer to 30 years I knew Summerslam 92 was SBO, but wasn't sure if that was a one off (Was still watching wcw on itv at around that time). Wiki says 'since the 80s' but isn't specific.

I wonder if they'll resort to Channel 4 levels of pettiness with the scheduling over the next 6 months.

How long has that Sky deal lasted? 25 years? More? WWE/F first appeared on Sky in 1986, before the merger in 1990 between Sky Television and British Satellite Broadcasting. There's been some form of the company on there for 33 years.

It's going to be fascinating to see what type of impact this has for WWE in terms of its UK viewers.
BT Sport is surely in fewer UK homes than Sky Sports? (I'm sure the figures are out there, I'm just too lazy to look.) Having said that, while WWE won't be a huge draw for UK sport fans, it's another string to BT's bow. And another mark against Sky Sports, who honestly have been more and more lacking in their offering for a while now.
BT may treat WWE better than Sky, who lets face it, show WWE at any random point in the schedule, with no promotion and very little regularity. And, BT have been paying BIG BIG bucks to try to cut into Sky's market share. Vince might have secured a piece of that pie.
On the other hand it's not exactly a great time for WWE to immediately halve their UK viewers at a time when AEW are in talks with ITV!
On the other other hand, perhaps WWE are confident that there are enough UK network subscribers to not worry about UK ratings, and just take the BT deal for the promotion and the money.

Hmm £10 a month to watch Raw and Smackdown now instead of £60 for sky and sky sports? Still not interested tbh

I have a hard time imagining BT being willing to give the WWE anything that tops the extravagant deal that Sky gave them the last time around, and if they managed to get them for less than that, it's a big pickup for BT as it gives them access to hours of weekly original content with name recognition to shore up their offerings when there's no football on.

The thing that sticks out more on a deal like this is that it feels like this is some of WWE's dealings coming back to roost.
We're not that long from WWE trying to sneak a UK launch of the Network directly after renewing their deal with Sky for more money and Sky pretty much forcing them to stop with it since, rightfully, it'd affect their PPV deal.
And considering they haven't exactly been bringing in the audience in the last few years, why would you want to deal with them anymore as a company after that?

It started on the SKY channel in like 86-88, that became SKY One in 1989 and that’s when I first remember it. It’s been on SKY Sports since 1992.
PPVs before Sky Sports was born were in Sky Movies, my copies of SSlam 91, SurSer 91 and WM 8 are Sky movies. SS 92 was the first on Sky Sports

Welp, looks like I’ll be cancelling Sky Sports then.
Any idea what kind of price I’m looking at for BT Sports?

SS 92 was the first on Sky Sports When you think about it, 1992 was the perfect summer for all concerned. Sky were already preparing a huge push for their big sports channel when the Premier League was launched, they already had a contract with a sports-like company, the WWF to give them more content. The same WWF who just so happen to have a big British star who they could promote, and who are looking to expand in new markets after losing their top star and are in one of their most turbulent periods to the point they're willing to go overseas with one of their biggest events, with one of their biggest ever crowds in attendance.

It's not a problem for Virgin Media customers either because we get the BT sport channels for free.

It's not a problem for Virgin Media customers either because we get the BT sport channels for free. Only problem is you have to get through the shows.

Sky have done a really bad job of promoting WWE for the last few years.

Sky have done a really bad job of promoting WWE for the last few years. I've never understood it, and been a bit pissed off by it. Like, it's as if it's some dirty secret that they have wrestling on there, maybe because it's not a "real" sport, but Sky have never fully showcased or promoted WWE, when it's probably one of the biggest reasons people subscribe to Sports in the first place (well, it is with me, anyway)

It'll be interesting to see what sort of money they're getting from this when it comes time for them to announce such things to shareholders. Sky spent big on them last time around and it doesn't seem to have paid off.
