I'm a simple man. I saw Ultimate Warrior and therefore I liked it.

Always have a soft spot for the 6man opener I always liked that match too. Always thought it was interesting how both teams always tag in the same order throughout the match. Dragon>Tornado>Bulldog, Roma>Hercules>Warlord. Don't know if it was them just wanting to match up the similar talents or maybe doing it to make it simple and easy to remember for space cadet Tornado but I always found that interesting.

It's not my favorite Summerslam, but it's probably in the top 5, if I had to go through them and choose.

Right before Greg Valentine vs. IRS, we get the Line of the Night : Heenan : Survivor Series will be on Thanksgiving Eve? is that before Thanksgiving? Monsoon : Brain, if it's Thanksgiving Eve then yes, it's before Thanksgiving! Heenan : Great! That means I get to stay home and open my presents!

The Ultimate Warrior and Undertaker were selling out house shows, why oh why didn't they do a blow off match here instead of sticking Warrior into a glorified squash match 🤷‍♂️

Absolutely love this show.
The fallout to this show changed so much as Warrior got fired and Sid injured. Honestly it was probably for the better because Savage & Roberts had a hell of a feud at the end of the year.

Piper can be a lot of fun on commentary, but Dear Zod, how I hated him being thrust in to the Monsoon/Heenan dynamic.

One of my favorite lines from the show was before the Match Made in Hell. Gorilla: Coming up, the Match Made in Hell! Brain: The wedding is coming up next? Gorilla: No!!! Get your act together!

Piper definitely killed the Heenan/Monsoon dynamic as noted earlier in the thread. His commentary was getting worse with each PPV and he only did four. Survivor Series was the exception, I thought he was pretty even and focused the entire show.
As for why they didn't go with Undertaker and Jake in the main event: it's a few reasons I would imagine. First being they were needed to start the Macho Man feud at the wedding and it wouldn't look good if they just lost to Hogan and Warrior in any way. Also it would look bad for them to be part of a three man team against two guys. It would make them look weak. And if it's regular tag match, who doesn't make the main event. Jake wouldn't fit as a manager for this one event if Undertaker was in the tag and Undertaker was a big enough star that he shouldn't be left out of the main event.
I don't really understand the Jake turn but it worked and he made it work. He went from being one of the most over faces for four years to outright evil. I guess he always had it in in, kayfabe wise, but it was just strange as a kid to see it. I also don't understand how the Macho Man feud even came about. I know with Elizabeth and Macho Man being faces together with no Hogan involved, they needed a reason to have Elizabeth involved in a feud so they went with Jake first and then Ric Flair. But as a kid it just never made sense to me, like each feud came about by throwing something at the wall and seeing if it stuck. Luckily, it stuck. Everyone involved was a star and made it work.

Watched part of it last night. Just noticed the absolute look of concentration on Steamboat’s face not to swallow whatever shit is in his mouth to blow the flame.

One of the best Summer Slams ever. I have so many fond memories from most of the WWF PPVs from 88 to 92. There’s something special about that five year period to me. I don’t think WWF will ever have entire cards that feel that important again.

As the OSW boys said it should have been a 6 man tag. Hogan, Warrior & Sid vs Slaughter, Roberts & Taker. With Slaughter still doing the job obviously to keep Jake & Taker strong. Of course this would require Jake & Taker to Tag with Slaughter and I guess despite them all being heels I’m not sure if them teaming up actually makes sense.

Piper: Hart's got everything to gain and nothing to lose! Heenan: What about perfect? He's got nothing to gain and everything to lose! Piper: Yeah, but I want him to!

I think this is the show that set the course of Bret's impressive singles career over the next few years. Some may suggest it was the Piper match but with Piper not really being a full timer, the win didn't impress me as much as the Perfect win. Despite the Beefcake and Tornado losses on PPV, Perfect had an impressive run over the previous two years. For the most part, Perfect always seemed to find a way to win so I was sure Bret would just lose to him. Bret believed so much in the shows and the storylines and the victories that it made me as a viewer believe in it too.
