To celebrate Angel 20 years after it started, most of the cast & one of the co-creaters got together for an Entertainment Weekly photo shoot, for an upcoming Special Edition of their magazine, celebrating one of the best spinoffs ever(& a great show in it's own right)!

So Boreanaz actually is a vampire? He hasn't even aged.

So Boreanaz actually is a vampire? He hasn't even aged. Can we get a reunion movie? I really need to see the Angel vs Dragon battle.

So Boreanaz actually is a vampire? He hasn't even aged. He actually aged more while playing the role than he did after doing so. I am thoroughly jealous in that regard. I would like to have stopped aging around 30 as well. Then again, most of the cast look pretty good, so there is that.

Angel > Buffy Buffy's highs were better than Angel's highs, but Angel's lows were better, and Angel had the more consistent quality. And the character development, just damn, what they did with Wesley and Cordy was incredible. Also, they knew how to make a main villain that you only actually see one time, into the ultimate threat. Buffy tried it with The First, who never touched anybody, and really wasn't a believable threat. But Angel had the Senior Partners, and they did a good job of establishing them as a massive threat. Charisma Carpenter still looks stunning. Most beautiful woman in the Buffyverse. Speaking of Charisma/Cordy, screw Joss for what he did to her. That's one of the reasons when the Joss stuff hit, that a lot of fans weren't shocked at all.

The one show that should've had a proper sixth and final season. Strong character development, powerful emotional moments, and I loved the transformation that Wesley went through. He was one of the main reasons I watched during the fourth and fifth season. My understanding is the head of the WB entertainment division at the time was eventually replaced due to cancelling Angel. The series was the second highest rated show on television!
Wondering if all of this talk is going to bring about a reunion show of some fashion? Boreanaz, Marsters, Richards, Adams, Denisof, and Carpenter still look the same and haven't aged much. They could absolutely pull off a return to form should they bring the show back.

And the character development, just damn, what they did with Wesley and Cordy was incredible. I've said it many a time, but Wesley's development is one of the best done in any medium. The gradual shift from indecisive, cowardly comic relief with no redeeming features to grim, heroic leader capable of making the impossible decisions was so subtle they pulled it off without it ever feeling forced or unnatural. Also made me a fan of Alexis Denisof for life. Such a shame he never really saw the same kind of success Boreanaz had post-Angel, but he's spent the time since being one half of one of the nicest couples in showbiz, and got him some sweet Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy money, so he's not complaining. Cordy had a great arc too, but at least on Buffy you could see the potential in her and the fact that she had a spine.

What happened between Charisma and Joss? He basically had her written off the show because she got pregnant, and she didn't find out that she wasn't returning for the fifth season until a member of the press gave her the heads up that she'd been left off the announced cast list for said season.

So her storyline changed to her being in bed for a good portion of the season. She got fired from the show, and Joss didn't even tell her himself. In season 5 they begged her to come back for the 100th episode. She agreed to on the condition that Cordy not be killed off, so of course after the contracts had been finalized, they kill her off. And the character development, just damn, what they did with Wesley and Cordy was incredible. I've said it many a time, but Wesley's development is one of the best done in any medium. And they had hinted at the character development for Wesley in season 1. The episode with the possessed boy, had the demon tell Angel that Wesley was planning to kill him. Wesley later tried to tell Angel that he wasn't, and Angel told him that he knew Wesley wasn't planning to kill him, but that he's willing to, and that's good. They set up that Wesley would be the one to make the impossible decision, and Angel had no problem with it. That Angel knew that when the time came, Wesley would make the right decision.

It's amazing how they took a useless, forgettable character like Wesley and gradually made him awesome. His progression felt natural too.

Honestly, it's one of the few spinoffs I'd put over the original series...I love Buffy, but I'd put Angel just slightly above it. I agree. Though my view may be coloured by the fact I'd only seen a couple of episodes of Buffy, when I first watched Angel. But I thought the pilot episode was great - a bit dark, a bit sleazy, focusing on the grimy aspects of LA life. The rest of the show didn't really follow that blueprint, but it was so much fun. And the writers slowly got a good handle on what Boreanaz was really good at (quiet brooding and comedy making fun of himself) and what he wasn't good at (overwrought emotional scenes) and tailored the character accordingly. The supporting characters were memorable, and even the bad guys had a lot of development over the course of the show. Buffy will always be the more fondly remembered, because it captured the zeitgeist in a way few other shows have, and the high school setting is more evocative for the audience, but I'd rather watch any episode of Angel than any Buffy episode post-season 3.

I absolutely love Angel. It gave me:
- Lorne, who quickly became one of my favorite characters in the whole of the Buffyverse. - Cordy, who I know started on Buffy, but truly had time to grow and shine on Angel. And I will always prefer Angel with her over Buffy. Joss should be ashamed at what he did to her character, and why. - Some of my favorite episodes between both shows, like "Spin The Bottle" and "Smile Time". - A kick-ass theme song that I like to listen to, just because. - This scene:
Buffy is wonderful in its own way, but Angel always felt more... something. A little older, a little darker and a little more relatable. And no one got on my nerves the way some tended to on Buffy.

There were so many fantastic moments in Angel but I was pissed at what they did with the Cordelia character. She had really become someone fully realized and then all that bs just because she got pregnant. I was actually a bit annoyed by the cliffhanger ending and while they made the most of the Illyria stuff, I was pissed at what happened to Fred well I was more pissed at the MacGuffin that ended up being an incredible waste of time. Making fun of a trope but it really just came off as petty. I could be wrong but I think Illyria happened around the time that Joss found out the show wasn't being renewed when he had fully expected it to be and was pissed off.
However, that was before I realized his fetish for killing off characters. My honest initial reaction to him writing and directing the Avengers was "I wonder who's going to die".
But that's a tangent. For the most part this was a fantastic series and was really hitting all the right notes at a period when Buffy was missing most of them. It kept me watching Buffy until it got better again while also being an excellent show.
