They always screw up at the very end. They just plain can't stop themselves from WWEing up everything.
Stomping Grounds was a genuinely great show, with a crowd that was somehow even red hot for the Reigns / McIntyre match, and then they just had to WWE it up with the boring slog that was 20 minutes of Kofi and Ziggler twisting each other's ankles followed by stupid shipping nonsense all about prolonging the Becky / Lacey feud that Lacey's already decisively lost every step of the way via an Austin / Dude Love rehash. You can't argue the crowd wasn't willing to give the show a chance or came looking to hate it, they were completely into it up until it got boring and then stupid.
WWE just plain does not know how to get out of their own f***ing way.

PPV started awesome.
Then Kofi and Dolph shit the bed. And then Seth took that as a challenge to shit the bed even more.

The crowd sounded pretty invested in the main event to me.

For all the worry about Corbin, he ends up being like the fourth wheel in his own title match.

Wait, the show's already over? Not that I would complain about a pay-per-view NOT lasting four hours, but it ended 40 minutes early. I think the last time that happened was December to Dismember.

Seriously, like I said before the show in the thread, it was always probably going to be a solid enough show in spite of the doom and gloom there was going in, be it about the name or the general malaise and apathy of WWE these days, but then they just try to overthink things at the end, because UNPREDICTABILITY IS EVERYTHING.

I thought it was fun, if anything.
I found I enjoy WWE alot more just sticking to the PPV's.

I looked up the results on wikipedia and saw that Lacey Evans was the big time special guest referee and audibly shouted "oh my god" like the guy in Troll 2

say what you will about the main event, but the Lacey shenanigans kept your attention for a main event match that had nothing going for it on paper.

The crowd sounded pretty invested in the main event to me. They were disappointed by the ref reveal and sabotaged the first half, and an extended beat down by Corbin didn't help matters. They got pretty invested eventually though and were giving the desired responses.

T hey got pretty invested eventually though and were giving the desired responses. Gotta thank Becky for that though
WWE has to be careful the crowd doesnt turn on her and Rollins due to their relationship mentioned on screen being very forced.

The problem was that as soon as Lacey was announced as the ref everybody knew that Becky was going to run in so people were waiting for her instead of paying attention to the match.

I thought the show was better than I thought it would be...... Don't mistake most people here. Up until the last three matches, the show was really good. Great at some points even.

Can a person be really over and still not be quite working out? I kinda feel that Seth is in this category. He gets great reactions, but everything around that is just lacking. He just comes across as a whiny dork. And I’m saying that as a fan of the guy.

The problem was that as soon as Lacey was announced as the ref everybody knew that Becky was going to run in so people were waiting for her instead of paying attention to the match. In other words people were actually invested in a Baron Corbin main event match. Now if he could only get them to shoehorn Lacey and Becky in all of his matches

The problem was that as soon as Lacey was announced as the ref everybody knew that Becky was going to run in so people were waiting for her instead of paying attention to the match. Yup, which, I'll cut them a bit of slack, it happens sometimes even in great matches. I remember Foley talking about being frustrated about tepid reactions during his Hell in a Cell match with Triple H, with the crowd popping, but not really that much, for big spots. It changed when the ring steps were thrown and ripped a whole in the Cell, with the crowd erupting. He realized then that the problem was that the crowd knew the match was never going to end until the action spilled out of the Cell, and they had them eating out of their hands after that. Like, even if you have people into a match, they can get ahead of the script a bit, and there's not a lot you can do about that. You want them anticipating it, after all.
