So the solution to how poorly Stomping Grounds did rather than try new matches is to trot out the shambling remains of the Undertaker to prop the show up.
Taker's probably my favorite of all time but enough already. Dude was a has-been who could barely move a freaking decade ago. The guy is almost unarguably the single worst wrestler on the planet at this point and it's depressing as hell.
Ric Flair in TNA talking about banging a horse and literally showing his ass was genuinely more dignified than Taker is at this point.

Regular reminder that ever since Undertaker announced that SmackDown was always his home and that he'd raise hell if Team SmackDown lost at the 2016 Survivor Series... he's barely appeared on SmackDown.

I'm assuming this is setting up Reigns vs Taker at Summerslam?

Goldberg genuinely would've been a better choice as long as they kept him from headbutting shit like a tool.

In fairness, it’s hard to ruin something that’s already terrible.

Legitimately the only reason I don't think Taker / Shane is the worst Hell in a Cell I've ever seen is because Owens / Shane is longer and has a worse ending.

Too be fair, if I were Undertaker, I wouldn't want that Goldberg match to be my swansong either.

Yeah I think Goldberg honestly is the fresher and better idea here...and the guy rammed his head into a ring post and concussed himself the last time he wrestled. At least GB would have a different kind of rub to give Reigns since they have already done UT/Reigns and it sucked.

I understand not wanting to go out on a low note, but what if his next match also sucks? And the one after that? And the one after THAT? At some point he's going to have to realize he can't do this shit anymore.

I resumed watching WWE in 2006. All I saw was Smackdown, and there were quite a few memories of Undertaker I have from a short stretch of just about a year: him facing King Booker in the very first SD on the CW, the feud with Mr. Kennedy, reuniting the Brothers Of Destruction, the BOD vs. Booker and Finlay match to end 2006, the rivalry with Batista. And then I followed along online as he came back from getting destroyed by Mark Henry and Edge which led to my all-time favorite WM match at 24 when Undertaker took his World Heavyweight Championship back. And for a few years afterwards, he was still able to go even though he was slowing down, and my mom got into WWE because of me and became a huge Undertaker fan. In fact, one of her favorite live moments was Undertaker stabbing Lesnar in the hand with a pen and chokeslamming him through the table.
Which just makes him still trying to drag on after the Streak ended that much more f***ing painful for me. That match with Reigns broke my heart to watch, and yet he still is trying to keep going, whether because Vince wants him to or because he can't bring himself to quit or both.
This really sucks and I'm trying not to cry thinking about it right now. I know it sounds melodramatic but f***ing hell....

As bad as the match was, his legacy was pretty much ruined when he returned after being killed [unkilled?] off by Roman at WM33. And if that didn't do it, there's the Saudi shows, where, politics aside, his performances were abysmal.

For years on end now the guy's been hobbling his way back to just put on one abysmal match after another.
