Cody/Allin but just by a bit over the main event. Allin was made in that match. They put over that he would die if it meant he beat Cody, and he took everything Cody dished out and didn't stay down.
Overall there wasn't any bad matches(on the main card) and the show flew by fast.

Cody/Darby loses points because of the stupid back bump followed by the unprotected chair shot, and the fact it was obvious they were going for a time limit draw. i could be mistaken, but i don't recall Justin Roberts calling out the ongoing elapsed time for the other match. It happened a few times, the hardcore match and triple threat offhand.

You are mistaken, he called the tens for ever match that reached it.

But that's just a minor thing against the concept.

I was so tempted to give the Triple Threat Tag the win, Private Party are so damn fun, but I voted Cody/Darby.
Really though, I loved most of the matches tonight. Nyla's coming along nicely, Moxley is such a star, the 6 man tag was fun, and I admit, a kiddie pool being used to try to neutralize Nakazawa did make me laugh. Fun as hell show.

Cody vs. Darby no doubt.
Cody went from giving Omega and Okada their worst matches of the respective year's he wrestled them, to THIS.
He went from feeling like a WWE guy cosplaying as an Indie guy to THIS.
Something's clicking with him, and hell, keep it up.

i don't recall Justin Roberts calling out the ongoing elapsed time for the other match. Justin called for elapsed time in every match. Or at least the majority I heard. Edit: Others pointed it out but I threw my view up there. Also, yeah, Cody/Darby is MOTN by miles. Not that the other matches were bad but the storytelling there was incredible.

I think the Cody match is the perfect example of what I think AEW are trying to do and that's become almost like a buffet of pro-wrestling that caters for everyone without anything ever feeling out of place. You've got Cody out there putting on fairly old school style matches, you have the big spectacular spotfests, there's the some hardcore stuff and then obviously entwined in all that, some ongoing stories.
And that probably is going to be one of the things (if they continue to do it) that's going to make them stand out the most, since every promotion from the smallest high school indie to the biggest companies in the world, all (on the whole) have an in house style that they're trying to work with.

Darby Allin went from "Who is this guy?" to "Holy crap, when is this guy showing back up?" so, I'll say the Cody match, nonsense chair shot afterwards non-regarded. I wasn't too gone on Allin at first but check out the AEW youtube page if you haven't already, there's an awesome 5 minute video about Allin that really explains the character.

lol @ people in love with Cody now, just because he’s with a different company. I've always liked Cody, but I think AEW has really let him maximize his strengths. Dude always does his best work when he is putting gravity behind things, like All In, he made the NWA title look like the prize of old, and last few shows, he took a match up many people were dreading and made it the most talked about thing outside Moxley, probably, and this show, put over Darby in a huge way. Betting he'll probably make Spears look like a million bucks for All Out, given that's probably the matchup.

It was my first time seeing Private Party, and they CRUSHED it. SCU & Best Friends held up their end, that was my match of the night

lol @ people in love with Cody now, just because he’s with a different company. Yeah, that’s what it is. Couldn’t possibly have anything to do with the fact that he’s putting out the best work of his life, seemingly due to having creative freedom that he was previously denied by virtue of being in a different company.

I went into this not knowing who Darby Allin was and left being very interested in what he does next, so that alone makes that the match of the night for me. Another solid entry into Cody's oeuvre as well. I love seeing him truly come into his own as a performer. Yeah, and in fact I was a bit put off with Darby's overall look as I said in the thread he looks really try hard in appearance... but dude put on a hell of a match with Cody. even if that match had the two stupidest spots of the night... with the dive onto the ring apron and the chair shot at the end.. it was still a masterclass of storytelling.

It's the six man tag for me.
I saw how over that match got Allin, but I am still not sold on him yet.

When the hell did Cody get so good at storytelling? That has always been his forte Put him in a match where is just doing shit and it is ass like how it was when he first left WWE but he's mastered the ability to just make the match its own thing and as someone who has never really been interested in his matches since he left WWE, he's gaining my attention again

Another thing to add on Cody's improvement. Austin said something on his podcast to the effect of - you usually enter your prime in your mid 30's and I tend to agree with that barring injuries of course.. It's usually where your sense of the business meets your athletic ability. It's true for for Cody and a bunch of other guys as well. I didn't think AJ really hit his peak until a few years ago.
