To me right now all Adam Page is is the cowboy guy who got mocked on being the elite for not being in shape who does the really impressive looking lariat.
I know that he’s meant to be the next big thing according to the elite and all but I need more show and less tell.

I saw the potential in Page way back when he was involved in the totally awful ROH stable The Decade, so I definitely think he can succeed as a major player in pro wrestling. The problem with him as of now, is that he has never stood alone as a top guy. His entire career has been built around being part of factions and groups, and even now he’s with the company because he’s friends with the executives, and not because of his talent. That’s the narrative (at least in my head).
So in order for him to be taken seriously as a top guy, he kind of has to shed the label of being “in” with the bigwigs in the company.... which is going to be super hard because they named the f***ing company after their stable. Hangman really has to do something that distinguishes him from Kenny, the Bucks, and Cody, and establishes him as his own man, out of their shadow.
Which again is going to be super hard. Hopefully he can pull it off, but right now as much as I’ve always seen him as a real talent, I have a hard time accepting him as a main event guy.
That said I’d definitely prefer him as the first champion over Jericho. I’m not s huge fan of the mixed message either choice sends as your inaugural champion, but having your own guy win it first is more important to me than everything else.

He needs to show character in the show and ring. Past BTE his character was basically he was kinda of a Crazy Psycho. Now he isn't so he needs to find SOMETHING to sell as his character besides Cowboy.

Page's problem is the same as Windham's and Sting's when they were initially pushed as top babyfaces, his personality isn't as fully realized as a lot of his contemporaries', especially within The Elite.
It's not really a knock on the guy either. Like Akira Taue of the Four Pillars, he's still really good in his own right, he's just in there with Misawa and Kobashi & Kawada (or in Page's case Omega and Cody, and the Bucks).
I think all Page really needs is time and opportunities to really sink his teeth into some character work. Something programs against the likes of Jericho and Cody, and Moxley should be able to help him with.

So did putting on a boring ass match that refused to end while the commentators established a religion around him elevate anyone's opinion?

Well this thread is about to get a *lot* crueler I feel
Amazingly rough night for this dude. Got exposed in every way in an abysmal match whilst getting the full on Roman Reigns presentation. He is so so not ready.

He is so so not ready. I won`t say the guy is not any good,he is. But he was already the lesser Elite Guy and then he removes ALL of his character While at same time being treated as such a bigger deal than he ever was

I mean, the fix is easy: he loses to Jericho, and his character forms through adversity.
And he needs to bring it into his matches too.

I like Adam Page. He was my most improved wrestler in 2018. But I gotta say this.
This boy ain't got the sauce to be a top guy right now. Who the f*** even is this dude right now? This Yee-Haw Wonderbread shit he's doing ain't cutting it.

I don't know if the PAC thing falling tnrough was part of the problem. But this has been a super weak build up for him. He probably should have gone through Kip Sabian in around <5 mins. Like, I get the idea that AEW probably doesn't want to shortchange fans with short matches, but one of your two potential first champions going toe-to-toe with a pre-show guy who hasn't had a whole lot of exposure looks terrible for him.
The face should always face the tougher road than the heel to get to the same place. Yet, Jericho beat a top guy, and Page has been slumming it on a pre-show battle royale, and midcard matches. There's no real reason to believe he should be in the spot he is.

I think the blame on him is too much, Kip Sabian also had a boring match with Sammy Guevara at DoN.

Your build for your supposed top guy is having him win a comedy Battle Royale to get a shot at the belt and then go almost to a time limit draw to Kip "I too am also not over" Sabian, and the match was a slow slog with directionless moves and constant knee selling
The overselling of the commentary and Jericho doesn't help him either. He needs to lose to Jericho at All Out or he's gonna start to have an even more serious problem with crowds more so than tonight. People don't wanna see the "OVERCOMING THE ODDS HE'S SO AWESOME SUPERFACE" anymore, it will make people tune out of AEW, and going off the live show thread his match actually DID have people leave.
He ain't it right now, not like this.

Kip sucks pretty bad too so far but Page stands out all the more because he's got the clear push towards the belt, a top guy is supposed to be able to carry a match and he looked lost for 19 minutes... it was bad.

Commentary: They put him over for walking on stairs. Not even Roman has been praised THAT hard for nothing. Also, "he has zero flaws" is a legit quote from tonight. Come on now.
Match: Boring as hell. Just moves and it lasted forever. I don't even remember who he wrestled.
Storyline: Destined to be champ would be fine if he had crowd and fan support, but it's not there.
Presentation: I dunno who Hangman is as a character. They've done nothing to tell me.

I've been high on Page going into this show, and I haven't seen his segment yet, but the booking of Kip Sabian on this buildup was quite the mindf***. Why wasn't he blowing off his feud with MJF, or being put with a bigger name to establish real credibility?
