I really know / care nothing about the Witcher, haven't watched it, but that still entirely reads like they went in looking to hate it and then paid no attention to anything.

I’m a total newb to The Witcher franchise, having never read any of the books or played any of the games. Would anyone recommend I watch this series, given that? Does it work as an intro to the franchise? Would a newcomer be able to follow it?

It starts from the very beginning of the story and is actually probably the best intro you'll get in that respect. The games do a really good job of this stuff even though they're set way later but you will definitely not be lost starting here.

I got to the part where they complained that the second episode was focused on Yennifer and Geralt got shoved into the background. Now I haven't played the games or read the books but even I know shes a fairly important character so doing an episode where she's the focus doesn't seem like a big deal to me. EDIT: Oh, and then they skipped episodes and proceeded to complain that nothing made sense.

It's well-made. Too many things wrong for me to love it, though.

I saw episode three, which largely had two sub-plots going on, more fleshing out of Yennifer and a mission for Geralt. Quite enjoyed it. {Spoiler} (language)
Anytime Geralt says "f***" I chuckle

As a someone that only played the games.I enjoyed it.
I don't enjoy the last episode because I'm not a fna of big army battle scenes,I enjoy much more the grounded episodes where Geralt struggles with the balance of human and non-human.The first couple episodes are great and so is Yennefer's character.
Also not a fan of the magical forest part, it was kinda of a time filler,I barely remember it.

I thought I'd watch it after seeing it come up in my suggested shows to watch on Netflix, pretty good.
The "Toss A Coin to your Witcher" song is my favorite of the whole season.

Haven't seen it yet but I thought I'd jump in because I saw a post someone RT'd that said that today had the most people play The Witcher 3 at the same time than at launch over 4 years ago at almost 95,000.
So that's pretty crazy.
