Oh look, diverse neckbeards. This woke era knows no boundaries. Aarron's run with Jane was one of the sole highlights of the 2015-2017 phase of Marvel (a nadir for the company on any objective level), so hopefully the MCU mine some good material from it. Not fussed by this at all. It's not about a woman getting to use Mjolnir, but one who CANT ACT (or I just can't unsee her amidst the Lucasisms still...) Using movies from 20 years ago is generally not a good base for deciding if someone can act. Doubley so if said movie is written and directed by George Lucas.

1. It can always be brought back. This is Marvel. Nonsense when things are dead or broken they stay that way forever! But NO ONE IS EVER REALLY GONE!

You’re talking about Oscar winner Natalie Portman here? I know an Oscar does not per se mean a person is a solid actor, but I think she’s got a pretty impressive filmography, the enormous paycheck I mean, Star Wars films aside.

Okay, perhaps it is because I can't unsee the prequels. Fair enough, that's just me.

Really the biggest room for objection I could see is that in the other Thor movies Jane is really boring but even then, Ragnarok is so far removed from the other movies that it's barely even in the same continuity so probably shouldn't judge by those.

I’ll just flat out say my opinion of this; I’ve seen Natalie Portman in way more good movies than bad. The bad ones were the Lucas ones and the Thor ones and neither Thor movie before Ragnarok had really strong direction to get the most from its actors IMO.

Natalie Portman doesn't blow me away or anything, but I think she's a good actress. I didn't mind Jane in the first two Thor movies but my biggest thing was feeling like Natalie didn't want to be there. And I get that she *was* feeling like that, but still. Hopefully her choosing to coming back combined with the Taika Waititi factor will remove that.
Also don't mind the idea of Female Thor. I mean, it's comic canon, not something people are creating out of thin air to have a talking point or something. That stuff only bugs me when it feels phony; my gender isn't a tool for a PR move for ticket sales. This is totally cool, though.

Natalie Portman was terrible in the Star Wars prequels but then so was literally everyone that wasn't Ewan McGreggor, Liam Neeson, and Ian McDiarmid. Even Sam motherf***ing Jackson had some bizarre delivery of dialogue.
On the other hand, she was brilliant in Black Swan. The Oscar win in that movie was well-deserved.

I'm indifferent to Natalie Portman, but can any of you explain to me how she becomes Thor in the comic? What would set her apart from Captain America?

She picks up the hammer and become Thor... that's pretty much it... well Thor was deemed unworthy for nebulous reasons based on something Nick Fury said... (when revealed was really damned underwhelming and didn't really make any damned sense)
