I feel like a Wood Rocket parody of Cats would have them looking exactly the same as in this movie. Thanks for reminding me of Wood Rocket and causing me look look into their LEGO parody.

"Should we make a faithful adaption of the musical Cats? It's been a huge success for decades."
"Yes! Definitely!"
"Should we also use CGI to make the cast into naked, furred monstrosities that will haunt you until the day you die and make you uncomfortable to breath the same air as the people who thought that it was a good idea to use their talents to do this?"
"What?"
"We can get Rebel Wilson and Idris Elba?"
"I'm f***ing sold, bro. I'm so sold that Curt Hennig's ghost is telling me to calm down."

This is real low hanging fruit for group-think sheep to rip on. It doesn't look bad at all.

The ones who are wearing clothes don't look so bad. Elba wearing a hat and (cat?) fur coat looks pimp as f***, I will admit.

The ones who are wearing clothes don't look so bad. Yeah, Misto, Macavity, and Old Deuteronomy don't look terrible, because they don't look naked. But there's only so many of them, and the rest are terrifying.

I mean look at Rebel Wilson when she dances ... her entire body moves ... WRONGLY... the poor CG makeup is really obvious and if it's unfinished like most trailers are... they shouldn't have picked a CG Heavy part of the movie to advertise.

I will give credit where credit is due; it’s incredible how Rebel Wilson is able to consistently be terrible in everything she does. Yeah, I don’t see it, either. I only know of three things she was in before she got big outside of Australia... A small recurring role in a dark comedy series about pizza delivery drivers where she had to put on a Greek accent (one of the last in Australia’s strange history of using our multicultural eco-system as the backdrop of a comedy series before someone realised it was probably wrong to be doing so), a feature role in a sketch comedy series where all the sketches were set in the same fictional town (and that I remember was absolutely f***ing RUBBISH), and scattered appearances on Thank God You’re Here, where the featured comedians of the week had to improvise through a sketch they don’t know anything about in advance other than maybe what is indicated by their own costume. I don’t remember her being notably horrible in that, but there were probably about 30 people who did that show who were way better.

You know what kinda makes this coming out even funnier? It’s coming out the same week as Star Wars IX. Say what you will about the quality of Star Wars these days (that’s a different discussion that I’m sure will go a hundred pages deep in another thread) putting anything out against that is basically saying “ah, f*** it”

There can be plenty of money in that - Mamma Mia made enough to warrant a sequel a decade later despite opening against Dark Knight, after all. If they really wanted to bury it it'd be coming out in January.

John Cena's Animated movie came out against Last Jedi and got an oscar nomination and still managed to make almost 3 times it's budget back... despite them expecting only making like 15 mil at the box office for the first weekend. no one goes up against something like a main Star Wars movie and expects to win really.

Someone pointed out that one of the uncanny things is that while the Broadway actors had cat noses painted on as part of their makeup, and that helps at least to make a more catlike profile, whereas these ones just have straight up human noses, which adds to the weird hybrid feeling. I feel like they probably should have consulted some furries, who have years of experience in avoiding these kind of issues. (FWIW, I saw a few of the extras wearing motion tracking stuff, along with actual makeup, and the limited makeup looked way better than the CGI.)
