So someone did a frame-by-frame analysis of the trailer: (language) I think John Candy, Divine, and half of the 1987 Denver Broncos just rolled over in their graves on that still alone.

Someone pointed out that one of the uncanny things is that while the Broadway actors had cat noses painted on as part of their makeup, and that helps at least to make a more catlike profile, whereas these ones just have straight up human noses, which adds to the weird hybrid feeling. I feel like they probably should have consulted some furries, who have years of experience in avoiding these kind of issues. (FWIW, I saw a few of the extras wearing motion tracking stuff, along with actual makeup, and the limited makeup looked way better than the CGI.) The one guy who actually makes his living doing this (Jay Harrison out of Ontario, Canada) actually does most of his business for musical productions these days, as opposed to the fandom. And I'm apparently the one person on earth he absolutely refuses to let order anything from him -.-

This is real low hanging fruit for group-think sheep to rip on. It doesn't look bad at all. Hi. You're not going to be here much longer.

I don't understand why they couldn't just do the makeup. Or if they had do go full CGI, make them look like actual cats instead of... whatever the f*** this is.

You know what kinda makes this coming out even funnier? It’s coming out the same week as Star Wars IX. Say what you will about the quality of Star Wars these days (that’s a different discussion that I’m sure will go a hundred pages deep in another thread) putting anything out against that is basically saying “ah, f*** it” Yeah, the second the trailer dropped a lot of people pointed that out rightfully so. I don't think this will bomb, there's too many fans of the musical (that even despite their better judgment will support it), too many furries (that even despite their better judgment will support it because...well...do I need to say it?), and too many "swifties" (that even despite their better judgment will support it because Taylor's in it) to make that a reality. But any chance of getting any of the people that are going to see Star Wars to go see this the same weekend are probably dead in the water. I feel like this is going to be like Brock vs Cena at Summerslam in terms of box office.

I’ll actually see this first.

I saw a comment elsewhere from someone claiming to have a degree of facial blindness asking if that's why they aren't getting Uncanny Valley vibes, and now I'm wondering if that might be the case with me, because I don't find anything wrong with the way the characters look.
On the other hand, I AM getting the feeling that the movie adaptation will lose a lot of the charm and experience of seeing it performed live. Though that might just be my disappointment in the movie version of Into the Woods.

TBH, a lot of musical movies lose something in transition from the stage to the screen. Cats might be one of those films even though it's a hell of a cast.
Chicago, Dreamgirls, and Les Miserables are some of the only recent exceptions I can think of where I thought the movie was as good as the show it was based on.

I haven't seen a movie in a theater since Chicago. I may have to go to this.

Chicago did a great job with making the musical numbers in it daydreams/fantasies in Roxie's mind. That way they can make them big and over the top without coming off as corny or trying too hard.

Another thing someone pointed out... the cats don't seem to have a consistent size in the trailer

Another thing someone pointed out... the cats don't seem to have a consistent size in the trailer Or breasts. Most of the female characters appear to have had a digital double mastectomy, with the exception of Rebel Wilson... because she's fat, I suppose?

Has there been any footage of Kristen Wiig as Cheetah in Wonder Woman yet? Because if she looks like this, then...yeah...my interest will take a dip. 😕
