What are some of your favorite artists? For me I would have to say Bill Sienkiewicz. I really enjoyed his run with The New Mutants but it's his run with Moon Knight that makes him my favorite. I especially liked the covers he would do.

Neal Adams is probably my #1. Jack Kirby is second.
After that is John Byrne, Al Williamson, Dave Gibbons, Jim Lee, Adam Kubert, Tracy Yardley, George Perez, Stan Sakai and John Totleben.
If manga counts, then Hirohiko Araki, Nakao Takeuchi, Akira Toriyama, Eiichiro Oda and Katsuhiro Otomo.

Steve Epting was a favourite, when he was drawing Captain America.
I love Darwyn Cooke's art. The retro style of it always worked so well, especially on New Frontier.
Carlos Ezquerra is always going to be a favourite of mine, due to reading 2000AD as a young teen. His Judge Dredd and Strontium Dog were iconic.
In the last few years, I've really liked all of Dustin Nguyen's work, especially the Batman-related stuff.
Edit: Oh, and the best Transformers artist of my childhood, Geoff Senior. He always managed to make Transformers look vital and sentient without ever forgetting that they were robots.

I thought his run with Uncanny X-Men was awesome even though the X-Men were cancelled shortly thereafter.

Neal Adams - Best Batman ever. Curt Swan - Best Superman ever. Alex Ross - Almost photo-realistic in his art, but better suited to do covers, IMO. George Perez - King of team books.

I especially liked the covers he would do. Bill is an amazing artist. One day hope to get a sketch from him. Some of my other favorites are... Steve Ditko-The best of the Silver Age artists. Jack Kirby-One of the best artists ever. SOOOO Happy I got a chance to meet Mr Kirby and thank him for what he created. Peter Bagge-Sure his art is a bit simplistic. But he has this kinetic style that I love. Sam Kieth-If all he ever did was the Maxx he would still be in my top 10 artists. Robert Crumb-One of the first comic artist that I learned how to spot his style. That series of Jazz artist trading cards is some of the best photo realistic art I have seen. Tim Truman-More people need to read Scout! Steve Rude-NEXUS!!! Art Adams-I stil look forward to the one or so comics a year he does. Too bad he spawned so many clones like Jim Lee. Jae Lee-In the 90s boom while most people were praising Jim Lee I thought Jae Lee was the better of the two. Colin Upton-PRetty much unknown auto-biographical comic artist. Based in Western Canada Colin is a guy that should be huge but isn't. Robin Bougie-DO NOT GOOGLE HIS ARTWORK...lots of it is NSFW. Bougie has this amazing style that is realistic and at the same time very cartoony. Rebecca Dart-Sure she is best known for working on the first few seasons of MLP FIS,but she is also a great comic artist. Rick Vietch-If all he did was his run on Swamp Thing he would still be a great. Add in all the other stuff he has done and you get the best artist of the modern era. I could list at least 20 more. And as soon as I hit send I will think of at least 5 more I wish I had mentioned.

If you ever meet Neal Adams do not ask him about his hollow earth theory.

Alex Ross - Almost photo-realistic in his art, but better suited to do covers, IMO. Totally agree with you about Alex Ross. His art is stunning. But he has almost no storytelling skills in his art. So the art works best as covers or posters. It is the same thing that Jim Lee suffers from. The only real difference between Jim and Alex is if Alex gets paid to do some work he does it. Unlike Lee... Hey Jim are you ever going to finish up All Star Batman and Robin? You got paid for it what 8 years ago and never finished it.

Thought of a few more artists
Los Brothers Hernandez-I first read Love and Rockets in about 87. And the art is what stood out to pre-teen me. Such great art and the brothers should be spoken of like Kirby and Ditko are. But since the brothers mostly work on smallish b/w indie books they aren't as well known as they should be.
Mitch Byrd-If Mitch was fast enough to do a monthly book he would be considered a great. But he just can't draw fast enough to do a monthly book. Even his early stuff like Cat and Mouse has art that is better than lots of the over praised modern artists.
Steve Lightle-I have no clue what Steve has done since about 93. I first discovered him from his work on LoSH. For what seemed like 2 years Lightle was doing covers and interior art for Marvel Comics Presents. I wrote a letter talking about how much I loved Steve's art. Letter gets published. Months later in December I get in a letter and a print from MR Lightle. And for the next few years I would get a Xmas card and a print from Mr Lightle. I am guessing he did this for anyone that wrote in praising his work.
Warren Kremer-Best known for creating Richie Rich,Warren is one of those artist that gets almost no praise. I love his work on Richie Rich. But what made him be one of my favorite comic artists is his work on Hot Stuff the lil Devil. Sadly most comic fans born after 86 have no idea who Hot Stuff and/or Warren are.
Carl Barks-Surprised this thread has lasted this long a no mention of the best artist to ever work for Disney. Barks drew most of the classic Donald Duck and/or Uncle Scrooge comics.
