Loved Venom, both the movie as a whole and that hilarious portrayal of the character. I do like Spider-man 3 as a whole, but casting Topher Grace was definitely the weakest part of it and the only thing I didn't enjoy.

I think the parts of Spider-man 3 that Raimi gave a shit about blows everything the Venom movie had out of the water...
that said they are so few and far between due to Sony's interference that Venom is probably the over all better movie.
that said Woody Harrelson's Carnage wig is probably the worst thing in movie history...

Birth of Sandman, Peter's reaction to May saying "Spider-Man doesn't kill", Peter and Harry putting everything behind them, and Peter forgiving Sandman, were those moments. That's what Raimi wanted, he wanted the movie to be about Sandman, and Peter and Harry's relationship, he wanted it to be about forgiveness and letting go of hate. But like you said, thanks to Sony interference he was forced to make a movie he didn't want to. Also Topher Grace would have made for a much better Peter than Eddie. Still haven't seen Venom.

Venom. It’s a terrible movie, but it’s at least a lot of fun. Spider-Man 3 is a drag to watch.

I get the reasoning behind Topher. It's like ultimate venom who is like Peter.... and also adding a bit to the symbiotes separation anxiety by bonding with someone like Peter but willing to act on its darker impulses I don't think it worked since Raimi hated using Venom at all but still.

Spidey 3, and it's not close. It has flaws, but there is more good than bad. Venom sucks. Venom would suck even if Spider-Man 3 never existed.
