From the time he lost the title to Takeshi Rikio in March of 2005 until his retirement over 8 years later, he only suffered 1 pinfall loss, which was in his return match at the hands of Misawa in 2007, meaning Kobashi's last 6 years in the ring he was never pinned.
That is honestly one of the most insane invincibility streaks in the history of Pro Wrestling.

Kobashi's had a hell of a life. Not only one of the greatest Japanese wrestlers ever, but he also kicked cancer's ass.

If that happened nowadays, fans only accustomed to WWE's 50/50 booking style would be out for blood.

I tell you this much, if I was fighting Kobashi, after everything he's done and everything he's gone through, I wouldn't ask to have him put me over. Not a chance. It'd be an honor to eat a pin from that man.

Kobashi vs The Undertaker is one of my low key dream matches.

Burning Hammer deserves much better than to be used by the likes of Big (C)ass and Tyler Reks. lol

The craziest part of how long that went? Apparently, Kobashi's chops were hard enough to cause extensive nerve damage in his arms. Which means that Sasaki took about two minutes of chops so hard they damage the user.

I’ve got the newspaper from the day after his retirement match. The headline is a quote from him. I translates roughly to “Baba...Misawa...I hope you were watching/I hope you saw me”.
It’s tempting to say there’ll never be another like him, but one can hope.

It’s also from about twelve minute in to a match that runs for another ten or more minutes after the end of that exchange.

Nobody kicks out of the Burning Hammer. Not even cancer. Indeed. Best protected move in wrestling. I remember during the Cruiserweight Classic, Kendrick gave Ibushi a burning hammer and Ibushi kicked out. I took a picture of the move and how devestating it looked and sent it to a friend of mine who was so pissed off about it he tweeted the picture to Triple H and basically told him WTF, NOBODY KICKS OUT OF A BURNING HAMMER! 😆

That is honestly one of the most insane invincibility streaks in the history of Pro Wrestling. This'll be controversial to some people, because Kobashi is beloved and heck I liked him as a wrestler too, but it's one of the many issues that someone can point to and say "Yeah, this hurt NOAH in the long run" about Misawa's booking. Is Kobashi a national treasure? Yes. But so were other aces before him and a lot of them did what was expected of them in their career's twilight. Am I saying Kobashi should've been jobbed out? No, of course not. But like how Jumbo and the rest of the generation before the Four Pillars put them over to make them into legit main event players, Kobashi should've been doing the same for whoever they were thinking could be their next ace and the cast that would surround him. But this is less a critique of Kobashi and more of the man that was booking him.

As someone that wasn't watching puro at the time but most definitely saw many a Fight Network ad about how cool certain non-WWE guys were, Kenta Kobashi seemed like an absolute god. Like, beyond being as amazing as he is, he's always gonna have a soft spot in my heart for ads of him just chopping the f*** out of people.
