Hmmm...on one hand they need Spidey to stop the Spidey-without-Spidey Universe nonsense. And Into the Spiderverse wasn't Marvel Studios proper. But MCU involvement and input was helping the new live action films. I agree about that. Creatively...while the Maguire films were fine (up to 3), he didn't have ALL of Spider-Man's personality down pat. Marvel Studios fixed that. BUT.... On the other hand, one might argue that Marvel Studios made Peter into an Avengers fanboy and changed parts of his supporting cast (I won't describe some of them for fear of sparking further debates). And the best Sony movies got a lot of it right, IMO. And if they make them really desperate (ask Fox), you know what that means... Sony Pictures, A Disney Company...coming soon!! Sony buying Disney is honestly more likely. It would never happen, but at least it's financially possible. The company worth $37B buying the company worth $130B is more likely?

Anyway according to the Deadspin article, Disney were asking for a 50% split in profits, up from the original 95-5 in Sony's favour. It doesn't really matter how much they "improved" the Spider-Man in the eyes of the average Marvel fan, because with a split like that Sony is making far more money from their homegrown Venom movies and even shlock on the tier of the Amazing Spider-Man franchise than anything Disney makes. This is definitely a case of Disney badly misreading the power dynamics.

Guessing that Spider Woman is going to take Spider Man's place in the MCU Actually, I think Sony owns the rights to Spider-Woman as well, though they can use Jessica Drew (and I assume Julia Carpenter), just not as Spider-Woman. Maybe they'll just have Ms. Marvel be the teen hero (ok, heroine in this case) of the MCU.

Yeah, because I don't think Japan would even let Disney buy Sony. If Sony theoretically managed to liquidise all of their assets, they could probably buy Disney without the American government doing anything other than breaking Disney up a bit.

Spiderverse gives me some hope; I'm mostly just irritated in how awkward the writing is gonna have to be to get him out of the MCU. They've tied him SO much into the Avengers and Tony that no matter what they do it's gonna be clunky and awkward

I'd heard just today they want to do a Clone Saga movie, which would require Peter. I believe it. Sony cutting ties with the company that made their franchise worth a billion dollars so they can do one of the most disliked storylines in that same franchise's history is such a Sony move.

After reading the article man Disney screwed it up. You mean they think they can jump from 5% to 50%? Come on now bruh, you're way outta pocket there. They don't deserve that much no matter how much people like the movies, it's theirs. At most aim for 25%-33% but not 50%. That's not how these things work lmao.

They also brought Uncle Ben back to life just to shoot him again.

This is definitely a case of Disney badly misreading the power dynamics. And this is why I can completely see Sony's viewpoint if this is true. Ignoring the Marvel movies for a second, you have Venom which blew away box office expectations and became one of the most successful Superhero movies of the year, you have Spider-Verse that was a risky project that turned a profit AND got them a bucketload of awards and just yesterday, the Spider-Man PS4 game was the second most successful PS4 game ever, so much so they've acquired the studio that made it and basically letting them go full hog on a sequel as well as another Ratchet and Clank. Yes, we'll probably get another movie reboot from all this and yes, it'll be weird to see that character gone from the MCU and yes, the quality will be a damn gamble but on the other hand...Sony probably saw what happened with FOX having Disney connections in the past and Lucasfilm and other acquisitions, saw the fact it was making money for the first time in years across all divisions and went "Nah, we're good". So yeah, this seems like Marvel being SUPER cocky. EDIT: Also, going up from 5% to 50%?! You bozos! You can't be that cocky when you don't own the damn film licence.

Both Spider-Man movies as it turns out are going to be a delusion of Tony Stark after he does the Snap in Endgame.

They got Mysterio on film and did it right so I don’t mind at all what they do with Spider-man now.

On one hand I’m pissed that Sony is basically telling the company that reinvigorated their franchise and gave them their highest grossing movie to eat a dick. How much money from this deal did they use to get Venom and Spider-Verse off the ground and to find their other Venom-verse ventures?
On the other hand, Kevin Feige’s cocky ass had it coming. That’s what you get for basically sweeping everything on the tv side under a rug and basically saying that it’s possible the Netflix shows aren’t canon. Well there goes my Daredevil/Spidey crossover. Eat a dick to everyone involved.
