Sure we have all seen some horrible wrestlers on vhs,tv,dvd, streaming, etc. But who is the worst you have seen in person?
For me it is a 2 way tie. ANd even though I saw Alabama Doink live, under his other gimmick,he isn't on my list.
Nick Mason Experience-Only saw him once. But he wrestled for about 5 years. At a XOW show in town Nick Mason Experience faced Jay Blade. Jay is a decent high flyer, and I had seen him a few weeks earlier on a XOW show. Before the show started I saw Nick setting up the ring and thought "Wow their ring crew is a bunch of 14 year olds." Then Nick came out to wrestle. Watched Nick botch the same move 3 times in a row. Then Nick kept not selling anything Jay Blade did. I was right by the ring and heard Jay tell Nick "SELL THIS!" then Jay chopped the hell outta Nick.
Learned after the show that Nick was being trained and his dad was the ref for most indie shows in the area. Not long after that show Nick's father died in a car wreck. And I guess since so many wrestlers, promoters, etc loved his dad Nick started getting book for every show in MS. ANd he didn't improve. Matter of fact he got worse. Thankfully Nick retired by the time he hit 19. Found out when I saw him the first time he was only 15. Even though in MS you have to be 18 to wrestle, lots of the smaller indies will use teenagers since they will work for cheap or free.
Bill Franklin-First time I saw Bill was a 2016 Wrestle Birmingham show. We got there 4 hours before the doors opened. After setting up JP's backdrop for promo pics and getting our table and cameras set up I was just walking around talking to the few guys on the show I knew,JD McKay,Eric Wayne and Derrick King. Then in walks a guy that was 5'10" and almost that wide. was in dirty sweatpants and a majorly stained t-shirt. I figured he was part of the ring crew. And was joking with my buddy I did commentary with that Bill looked like a roadie for a Journey tribute band.
After helping Tracy Smothers carry in his stuff,he had his bags plus 3 tubs...I see that Journey Roadie,I still hadn't learned Bill's name,is now sitting at a table and on the table he has a bunch of tiny ,like under an inch tall,USA flags. So I was thinking ahh ok he runs a gimmick table for someone.
The first match started and was a double DQ. So Eric Wayne gets on the mic and tells his opponent that he wants a rematch. "ANd it is a tag team match so here comes my partner a WWE/WCW/ECW LEGEND!!!" Out walks Big Cat Curtis Hughes, who called the crowd a slur that got the promoter a big fine from the AL commission.. I won't say what Hughes called the mostly white crowd, but it was the term that Randall in Clerks 2 didnt know was a slur.
THen Cody Windham grabs the mic and says "WELL I GOT SOMEONE WHO IS TOUGHER THAT HUGHS!" And Journey Roadie gets up from the table and walks to the ring. Still in the dirty sweatpants and t-shirt. The short walk from the table to the ring had Bill short of breathe. He was suppose to be a face. But the crowd was either booing him or bored off their asses. Since I knew our commentary wasn't being played over the speakers and I was in a goofy mood I grabbed the mic from Koby and for the entire match sung Don't Stop Believing. Bill got tagged in once. Threw a punch which missed and caused him to slip and fall to the mat. He couldn't get up so he crawled to his corner tagged Cody Windham then crawled under the bottom rope and sat down on the floor outside the ring.
After the show I was talking to some of the AL guys and found out that Bill had been wrestling for 15 years. "And that was his best match ever."
So guy, ladies, etc who is the worst wrestler you have seen in person?
