We ever get confirmation what the big scandal a summer or two ago everyone was cryptically talking about was supposed to be? The Vince tanning salon thing? That kinda just went away after a week or two.

A WWE story? Should this be moved to the WWE section then? But what could it be that it's a "big" story? As of right now because Punk or Cena returning, if Triple H isn't taking over more brands then it won't be considered that big to most of us. Only real things I can see that'd even kind of qualify as big are... - Vince stepping back or stepping down to focus on the XFL. - SmackDown going to three hours. - Someone big like Reigns, Orton, or maybe at a stretch Balor being on the way out. - Network price restructuring. - Punk coming back. Those are really it. In last week’s Observer, Meltzer wrote that AEW people were convinced that Punk was headed back to WWE, but Dave said that WWE people had vehemently denied it to him. But he also said it was possible that the people who were denying it wouldn’t have been privy to any talks. The other thing Meltzer notes is that Punk and WWE are both represented by CAA and one of Punk’s reps reached out to FOX about Punk potentially hosting the WWE talk show on FS1. Dave says he can’t confirm that Punk even knew about this, but it was something floated by his people.

There’s two ways of looking at this Punk return to WWE rumour. One is that he is actually actively pursuing a return or two, we are all being worked like jabroni marks (brother) and it’s a swerve to make his AEW debut all the more shocking.

Going to be honest. I'd rather have Colt Cabana than Punk. Not going to act like it wouldn't be seen as lesser by most wrestling fans, but I just like him more and am more sympathetic to him.

Yeah, I'm more of a Colt man myself. It looks like he's in the ROH tournament for a world title shot at Final Battle, so him winning the ROH gold would be nice too.

I'm just going to guess that WWE bought Impact and they will be debuting on the tiered version of the Network.
I really think if it is WWE related it will be something Network related since they are taking away an exclusive with NXT.

Rowan’s double is actually Rod McMahon who has been the one pulling the strings all along. He’ll be revealing the contents of Shane’s lockbox Monday night. Let’s see this pissant company top that!

As of right now unless Punk or Cena are returning, if Triple H isn't taking over more brands then it won't be considered that big to most of us. Cena's getting that Hollywood money, so I can't see him coming back full time. It's obvious it's Punk returning... to be lead commentator on Smackdown. I actually wouldn't mind if that's how Punk returns. He'd be somebody who would have no problem telling Vince to go to hell, when Vince yells in his ear.

Those are really it. I still say that Vince stepping down as CEO, but remaining Chairman is a very real possibility. The XFL seems to have much better people in charge this time around now, and definitely has a more professional, serious approach than the first go around. I think he learned from the mistakes of the past and knows he can't just focus on the XFL on the weekend, and run 9 hours of wrestling TV during the week.

If it's something along those lines, I'd honestly prefer it be that WWE buys ROH and absorbs it. I'm all for there being multiple companies producing content, but if one of the two were to disappear, and one were to stay, I'd rather have the Don Callis and Scott D'Amore booked product remain.

Now is the perfect time for CM Punk to return to doing something in wrestling, be it commentary or wrestling. Whichever company he chooses, it will only serve to make things even more interesting as the two companies do battle. Whether you like him or dislike him, his involvement would add to the overall buzz about pro wrestling over the next several months, which the entire industry could use.
I know, I know, he's not interested in wrestling anymore. But now would be the prime time for him to pad his bank account a little.
