When is Wrestle Kingdom again? Wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't still the champion by then, given I'd imagine he'll want to be on that show, and if he's losing to Tanahashi or something, they probably wouldn't want him bringing the belt there to do that, especially if NJPW is still annoyed at the Elite. January 4th and the 5th In regards to Jericho/Tana yeah they set that up at Dominion but they could also flip the script on that if they really don't want to go there. With Tana having the British HW title you can do other things with him and it is not like he doesn't have options However, I think Jericho probably drops it by then or he doesn't bring it with him to Japan and they treat it like a whole different thing. Jericho is also smart enough to know he can't pull a power play meaning he can't say i'm AEW champ and don't want to lose. Yeah, like, I doubt he wants to make the belt look bad, but he's also established enough to where it's probably fine even if he did lose. Either way, he makes 100 grand per NJPW match, so I doubt he wants to miss out on that. If they don't do Jericho vs Tana, it did also feel like there's room for a Moxley vs Tana match, plus with the British title, like you say, there are definitely options.

Yea, make no mistake about it Jericho is a business man first and while he is AEW everything right now, it won't last forever and I can't see him not doing a match at WK since he makes that sum and he only has 3 matches tops per year in NJPW Oh course on NJPW side, they aren't going to bring in Jericho for any match and pay that fee so if it isn't Tana it really is no one since he doesn't have history with anyone else

Still, they'd likely want to establish that more first.

It’s sensible. Jericho needs to be for AEW what Terry Funk was to ECW; outing over new abs rising stars. Having him as the first heel champion sets the stage for an up and comer to be the savior of the promotion. Yep, that up and comer Cody! Code is AEW’s answer to what Shane Douglas was for ECW. A young guy who is already a veteran and diverse enough to make just about anyhug he is put in work. He’s got his place.

Just want to add that at age 51, Flair still looked great, could go, and really could have a main event run in WCW. He was still over and drew great ratings. Not all old dudes are the same. It's all about time and place. I also think a benefit of only two hours of weekly television is that Jericho won't be overexposed at all. I imagine him wrestling probably 25-30 matches at most a year which is perfectly fine.

I'd say Omega, Luchasaurus, or Moxley might beat him out there, but he's definitely popular, of course. He's also the only one of these four who I could see making a kayfabe argument for wanting a title match just yet.

I think Luchasaurus and Jungle boy will be too busy being the AEW tag champions. And you can say "he is too over to be stuck in tags" but well The Bucks want tag teams to be at the same level at the world title,so makes sense to have two of your biggest future stars hold it I wouldn't be surprised if it was Darby Allin or maybe evne someone that gets on fire for some reason that no one saw coming.

I think Darby's a long way from where they'd put the world title on him, but I could see him getting it eventually if he keeps being such a show stealer and so damn over. And I'm sure Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy will probably be tag champs, either the first or eventually. They just work too well as a package deal.

I don't think they would want 2 ex-WWE guys to hold the first 2 title runs so I would be either PAC or Omega wins next if they don't decide to long-build someone to it.

There's merit to that argument, but Cody's been NWA and ROH champion since leaving WWE, and had the NJPW stint, so I think he's put enough distance between him and WWE to not really be seen as a WWE guy.

I'd say Cody should be the first challenger, lose, then the belt should be moved to PAC with the eventual goal of getting to Omega vs. Moxley with it. Though I do absolutely think Cody should be champion at some point and I wouldn't object at all if he was the first one to beat Jericho.

Pentagon PAC Omega Cody Page again Moxley Fenix Daniels (yes I said it. Daniels vs Jericho would be AWESOME)
Man, so many quality feuds/matches here for Jericho.

Due to his frequent hiatuses, Jericho's 'tv age' isn't as old as his actual age. I mean it's up there, but he's also taken years at a time off.

I think another thing helping Jericho is that the Judas Effect has gotten very over very quickly. When he hit it on Page you could hear this collective sort of gasp from the crowd because they knew it was over.

Yeah, plus it was cool to have him hitting it as a counter to the same forearm Page had blasted Jericho with. I will say, Jericho kicking out of Page's finisher, I wonder if he'll seek out a new one for his whole road back. I mean, it's a cool move and all, but I feel like he could benefit from a new one.
