They finally broke the 5 stars! They are not average at best anymore! Reference to a BTE Segment Kenny Omega must be proud.

Would've been 6 stars but it wasn't at the Tokyo Dome.

And they did it without reading Kenny's Book of Psychology too (further referencing the BTE bit).
Here's his other ratings for the PPV along with comments:
Casino Battle Royale: 2 1/4. This is being charitable. At least it was better than the one at Double or Nothing. Private Party vs. Angelico/Evans: 3 1/2. Good match. Riho vs. Shida: 3 stars. Meh, too long, didn't care. More like 2 from me. Luchasaurus and Co. vs. SCU: 4. A nice 3 1/2 match. Best Friends vs. Dark Order: 2 3/4. About right really. Kinda sluggish but built okay. Allin/Janela/Havoc: 4 stars. I can see that actually. I can also see someone saying it's negative stars, haha. Cody vs. Spears: 4 stars. For those that enjoy this style of booking this makes sense. I can see others saying it's a junk 2 star match. Omega/PAC: 4 1/4. It was good, could have been even better. Page vs. Jericho: 4 stars. Okay now he's nuts. At best a 2 1/2 match. Some okay work but lethargic pace and far too long.
And yes...the Bucks/Lucha Bros. match got 5 1/4. I probably would put it at 4 3/4, mainly because the spot where Nick Jackson tripped on the ropes and nearly killed himself drops it a bit. Still an all time crazy spotfest.
What did Meltzer give the UK Takeover matches?

Honestly it's insane to me that match has been as well-received as it has. Different strokes and all but to me it was just a bunch of meaningless noise, didn't find myself caring about it at all.

Isn't this the second 5 or more star match AEW's had? Not bad, of course.
I know Cody vs Dustin got 5 stars, which, I would say was deserved. More my thing than the Bucks match was, but still, impressive!

Okay, also, I'm not really one for star ratings anyway, but to me it feels like being willing to go above five stars renders the entire rating system completely worthless.

This, negative stars, and .25 stars did it for me. Even just thinking 5 was the maximum amount of possible stars, between -5 and 5 stars you're grading on a 1-40 scale, which is just absurd. Going beyond that is arbitrary Pitchfork Media territory.

I said it when the match was over in that it was nothing more than they have done with each other prior.
IMO Penta and Fenix matches with LAX are way better than any of the ones have had with the Bucks.

I don't mind spotfests now and then. I do mind the convoluted, overly-choreographed spotfests these teams put out when they get together.

That means he thinks it's better than such matches as: Austin-Hart, Punk-Cena, Flair-Steamboat, etc..
This is why I don't take his ratings seriously.
Imagine if someone like Roger Ebert, for example, who always did movie ratings up to 4 stars, just suddenly started giving out 5, 6, or 6 and a quarter stars out of nowhere. It's silly.

IMO Penta and Fenix matches with LAX are way better than any of the ones have had with the Bucks. Honestly, I think Fenix and Penta both had singles matches in Lucha Underground that were way better than anything they've done as a tag team, including the Bucks feud. I really hope they get the opportunity to do more in AEW, because while they're good enough to pull off really nice fast-paced flippy-guy spotfests like this, it feels like a waste of their talents. I want to see Pentagon as a violent monster again, and Fenix against vicious heel types like Mil Muertes or Marty the Moth who'll beat the shit out of him until he shows he can fight back just as hard.

Love everyone involved but I strongly disagree. I enjoyed it for the train wreck spectacle that it was (and done REALLY f***ing well) but a lot of stuff took me out of the match.
The constant taunting and pausing, and random ass weird moments of nothingness. And so many moments the ladder could have been climbed, I’m not a stickler for that but it was glaring. His opinion of course, I figured it’d get 4.something or a 5 but eh.

Personally I think it was some. They took a style of match and did a marvelous job from it. Wheter having a system that breaks 5 star is good is not something I'm insterested on discussing

Meltzer really is just one fan reviewing matches. He's a wealth of knowledge about the history and inner workings of the business, but it's just his opinion and tastes. He's not the authority on what makes a good or bad match.
That said, most people I've seen review All Out made Bucks vs. Lucha Bros. their MOTN. I would've gone with Kenny Omega vs. PAC, but that's me.

As great as they are as a tagteam they have gotten into a routine and has hurt them , I have said this before ever since they became pretty much strictly a tagteam they became far less of the characters that made them and just rather generic. To repeat your statement nothing they have done as a tag team has ever inched anywhere close to the quality of their singles matches in LU.

If someone says they're giving their 110 percent, they still just mean their all. It doesn't mean they're holding back if they later pledge to give 100 percent.
Anything above 5 stars is basically just 5 stars, but with emphasis. Don't get too hung up on it.
