I'm out of work at the moment, and doing some soul searching to figure out what I want to do with the rest of my life. My dream job would be to be an author, but I've always been too afraid to chase the dream in case I fail. (Which I realise is stupid.)
What's your dream job?

I'm with you brother. I get these "bullshit" jobs, that are nothing like they're presented. I am beyond exhausted doing food & beverage jobs. And while there are jobs that I like and can do, they pay squat. It's rough.
I'm also with you about the writing job. I would love to write books, screenplays, news articles, jokes, etc.
I went to college for Media Production, but didn't get to finish for a number of family reasons. I have student debt, and I often think of going back and finishing, but I don't know.
I would just like to find a job that I'm proud of, contributes to society, and yeah...pays decently.

At this point, I don't even know any more. Getting to do one of my "dream" jobs left me somewhat sour on it.
Honestly, I'd just like something that would allow me to make my mark on the world. Not be famous or anything like that, but something that when when I'm gone people will remember me as making s positive contribution to the planet and its inhabitants, rather than just punching the clock for some corporation.

I've always wanted to get in on this Bikini Inspecting job that I seem to hear so much about. I never know which company to give my resume to though.

I'd love to work at a low key gas station with a group of friends. I did that way back when, and it was a great time. Half the time when we weren't working, we were still at work hanging out.
This is also why I love the ending of Clerks 2. Very personal.

I still want to be a musician. Not even a stadium or arena filling musician. I just want to record the styles of harsh metal and electronic music I love, play small clubs and/bars and make a living doing it.

At this point, I don't even know any more. Getting to do one of my "dream" jobs left me somewhat sour on it. Me too. I got my “dream job” with in my industry last year (I’m an electrician) and it ended very poorly. I’d do it again in a heartbeat but that was a kick in the nuts. My favourite area of being an electrician is fire alarm systems. I like it, I’m good at it, it interests me, it’s easy and if I get shocked it’s way less voltage. Last year the company I work for put out a memo asking for people to join the fire alarm department. So I jumped at it and left a position I hated but was very secure in to do it. I didn’t know that the fire alarm department was a sinking ship and six months later they had no work for me. And my old position had been filled. So now I float around like a f***ing chooch.

If I had the full freedom to do whatever I wanted, like having all the free time necessary and money/healthcare/etc. not being a concern, I'd almost certainly be throwing myself into voiceover work. I tried it a number of years ago but couldn't commit the time necessary to really break into the industry, but I'd love getting the chance to voice a cartoon, or a theme park attraction, or even just narrate things.
And yeah, I'm with people on the author idea, too; I've played around with that over the years but, again, time and resources are required that I've never been fully comfortable having to commit to; with graduate school mostly in my rear view mirror, maybe I'll get a chance to try again.

I wanted to work for Disney when I was a kid. Went to Disneyland all the time, so getting to do that was the dream.
Best part is I did. For three years in Stores and in Collectibles. Unbelievably difficult at times, but the most satisfying job I ever had. Still have friends there and am still grateful to have done it. If asked to come back, as long as I got the pay and health insurance, my response would be in a New York minute.
No dream need stay a dream. Never ask what if, try the why not?

Not working.
Many many many years ago it was to be a wrestler.
Even sent in for the list of wrestling schools from those old Apter mags.

Running my own multimedia company. Right now the extent that I’m doing it is just selling stuff online. Mostly books, DVDs, and Blu-rays. The last two can surprisingly still be very profitable if you keep the right stock and are willing to put in the work.
I’d really like to branch out at some point. Keep different kinds of stock as well as produce my own products/content. Perhaps even have some kinds of live events, sales conventions, and/or a retail shop. All pipe dreams right now, but something I always have in mind.
For anyone who isn’t working their dream job I suggest finding some outlet for it if you’re working an unrelated day job. The catch is even for this outlet try to find some profit in it. If you don’t you may grow resentful of it and just see it as a lot of work without reward. You can fall out of love with things. And of course never leave your day job until you can afford to do so.
