The Rugby World Cup is underway, the hosts Japan beating Russia in the opening game yesterday and Fiji running Australia close today. There’s also a massive group game between Champions New Zealand & South Africa later.
I doubt I will see much of this World Cup since it looks like all kick off times are before 12pm UK time and I usually work early mornings but will follow along as much as I can.
Any predictions for this tournament? Can anyone stop New Zealand making it 3 in a row?

It’s New Zealand’s tournament to lose. They’ve been the benchmark of world rugby for so long, hell, I’d go as far as to say of all of international-level sport. If they happen to blow it, though, then it’s wide open between England, Ireland, Wales, Australia and South Africa. Any of those teams can get on a hot run on their day.

New Zealand do enough to hold off South Africa in the 2nd half. New Zealand looked devastating in the first half but dug in well 2nd half. Potentially this could be the final and wouldn’t be surprised if it is. We won’t find that out till the end of October though.

i don't usually watch RU (nor even the six nations for the last half decade) or indeed Rl, but i always try and see the world cup and saw the JAPAN v RUSSIA game in it's entirety, good game and was shouting when the japanese scored! caught the end of NEW ZEALAND v SOUTH AFRICA and gonna watch the highlights of the three games today, when i watch the F1 qualifying still don't know the SCOTLAND score and don't wanna either

Yeah, when my family was making our predictions the other day it came down to “if New Zealand play like they want to win it, they’ll win it”. Although if they don’t, as you say it’s pretty open with at least four teams having a genuine chance. I’d also add France to the mix because although they’re not anything special at the moment, that’s when they might actually play and surprise people.

Potential upset on the cards here Fiji losing 17-27 to Uruguay with 20 mins left.
And they do it! Fiji 27 Uruguay 30, Fiji needed to win this with Australia & Wales in their group but surely any hope of them advancing is gone.

Easy wins for England & Italy as they both score 7 tries against USA & Canada. USA did get a late try against England though which they celebrated as if they had won.

Japan beat Ireland 19-12. Huge result which could possibly see Japan advance to the knockouts and potentially knock Ireland out. Ireland did beat Scotland though so I guess they will be hoping Japan can beat Scotland too.

No if we win our final two matches and grab a bonus point in each we go through so qualification is in our hands. So we need Scotland to beat Japan to have any chance of topping the group.

New Zealand spank Canada 63-0 running in 9 tries. France struggle but eventually beat USA 33-9.
England face a couple of tough back to back Saturday games with Argentina this weekend and France next Saturday. Japan v Scotland is on Sunday the 13th.

There’s a typhoon heading for Japan and it’s going to cause some issues with the World Cup. The England vs France game has been called off and it looks like the Scotland vs Japan match might go the same way. If a match is cancelled, it isn’t replayed and both teams are given two points. This means Scotland would likely go out as they need to beat Japan (and have the Samoans beat the Irish) to stand any chance of going through to the quarter-finals. I know they can’t control the weather but this tournament is six weeks long, surely they could have accommodated for re-scheduling cancelled games?

I mean Japan have gone to some lengths to assure their progress to the quarters huh?
Would be a shame if that match doesn’t go ahead I’m sure the fans would want to see this important game. Also a shame England v France is off but I think England will take that.

I feel for Scotland it's a disaster for them but this doesn't suit us either. I'd prefer see Scotland beat Japan and us hopefully win and get a bonus point in our match to top the group but if the game doesn't go ahead then we finish 2nd and are in a Q/F against New Zealand.
Not saying we'd beat South Africa but I'd prefer playing them than the All Blacks.
*Sigh* You'd think we'd be used of Q/F exits at this stage.

yeah i can see where the organisers have with a problem like this, because they cannot risk any safety issues with this. and along with the tight game schedule it might be the only solution ..... and isn't in any way against one team or another!
didn't expect the aussie-georgia score today, just doing enough for the bonus point

Could it be possible for Scotland to compete in an exhibition consolation game? It could be a benefit game for Typhoon victims

Job done for us. Hope the game goes ahead tomorrow and you Scots win 😉
Also think it should be acknowledged the devastating affects this typhoon will have on the people in Japan. What ever about the rugby hopefully everyone will be safe in such dangerous weather conditions. The sport is secondary to these peoples lives.

Bye Scotland. Happy the game was played so there wasn’t a what if hanging over it. Japan now looking to beat South Africa like they shockingly did in 2015.
