This is happening. Cast: RDJ, Tom Holland, Michael Sheen, Marion Cotillard, Rami Malek, Ralph Fiennes, Emma Thompson, Antonio Banderas, Kumail Nanjiani, Selena Gomez, John Cena, Octovia Spencer, etc Apparently it’s got a huge budget and it’s out January 17th.

That seems like such a stacked cast for this type of movie.

My bomb senses are tingling. Especially since it's been slated for release in January. I read somewhere once that big movie companies tend to put "big" movie releases that they don't think will do very well (mainly because the actual movie isn't very good) and release them in January because that month as a whole is always one with less people actually going to movies anyway, so a bomb's impact isn't as bad. Combined with the fact that, while a movie with a stacked cast isn't necessarily a bad thing, a cast that's TOO stacked can raise some eyebrows. Almost like the star power is used to mask the bad script. Here you've got multiple big names in the world of acting, plus a big name in music AND a big name in wrestling, how can anyone NOT want to go out and see this film?

That seems like such a stacked cast for this type of movie. Voices of the animals most likely. Easy work, less money, big cast to attract the rubes.

This one sort of smacks of Downey thinking "The kid are still a little young to see Dad as Iron Man, let's make one for them."
And you know what? Good for him.

I'm no Hollywood guy, but I've never got why movies cast A-Listers in voice roles (other than the main character) rather than dedicated voice actors.
Seems like throwing money away. Like, are they going to gain any extra viewers because they've added an extra zero on the contract to have Ralph Fiennes as the Goose rather than a career voice actor?

RDJ's at that point where he basically can make whatever the hell he wants. Good on him.

Like, are they going to gain any extra viewers because they've added an extra zero on the contract to have Ralph Fiennes as the Goose rather than a career voice actor? Mostly because of Aladdin and Ferngully with Robin Williams, Gilbert Gottfried, and Tim Curry. It was a big deal when Williams signed on to them and caused a fight between those two studios that got pretty bad (well, really just Disney being huge, shitty bullies). But it was undeniable that when Disney centered their Aladdin marketing around Williams and his role as the genie, they made a shit load of cash. So then Shrek happened to really hammer that idea home of putting big name stars in all of the voice roles to sell the movie and companies have done it ever since. It's been successful too. Most of the marketing around non-pixar/disney stuff is centered around the actors in them and not anything about the movie, because it makes more money with general audiences.

Ok, seeing that trailer with RDJ's English accent makes me want another Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes movie.

Ok, seeing that trailer with RDJ's English accent makes me want another Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes movie. One's coming out in 2021. Edit: Though looking at IMDB to make sure I had the right year, it's a different director? But still RDJ and Jude Law.
