After the success of Shazam, I knew they’d make this film.

I really have absolutely zero hopes for this movie because while Rock is a great visual match to the character, he usually just plays himself which doesn't at all fit Black Adam.

This has been said to have been getting made for what feels like when the DCEU was nothing but a concept so I will wait to see if this actually finally ends up being more than just more talk.

Even though most people that saw it seemed to like it, I thought Shazam sucked. I turned it off about 45 minutes in. I have no interest in a spin-off whatsoever. Also, I agree with Lizuka that it will probably just be The Rock playing himself again.

This is an important movie for Rock. It'll show whether or not he has range.

He's very much a "shades of grey" antihero character as opposed to pure villain.

I actually do hope they portray him as a sympathetic anti-hero. This would lead to my idea for a third movie, "Shazam! vs. The Monster Society of Evil". Dr. Sivana and Mr. Mind put together their own Monster Society of Evil with old Captain Marvel villains like Mister Atom, Ibac, King Kull, Captain Nazi and Blaze. They manage to cut off the Marvel Family from the Rock of Eternity so they can't transform into their superhero forms. The one exception is Billy, who was already in his superhero form when this happened, so he can't change back. But alone he can't stop the society, so he has to turn to the only other person who might be willing to help, the person the ghost of the wizard Shazam says Billy should never trust, Black Adam.

Black Adam only really got interesting beyond the visual/shadow side of Captain Marvel* when they added the Kandahq tragic backstory hint of nobility. He kinda became What If Superman was Dr. Doom but it works.
100% he'll be sympathetic at least in his own movie and probably have a bit of a hero turn toward the end of whenever he and Billy fight or the next movie after that and that's probably for the best.
My main concern is since he already had similarly powered version Sivana if this won't feel all kinda same-y, especially given the entire Marvel family is around too.
*I know it's Shazam cuz if naming rights and blah blah blah; but lemme call him what he is in the discussion on a msgboard haha.

Yeah, calling him Shazam is f***ing stupid. He'll forever be Captain Marvel to me.

In the context of the movies, it's whatever I'm not gonna go to the box office and confuse the ticket taker haha, but y'all know who I mean so it's all good..
I mean my favorite Captain Marvel is Genis; and he's like the 3rd or 4th version just on Marvel's side.

He looks positively badass in this art. If the onscreen look matches I'm going to have a good time I think. Funny how every character besides Batman and Superman have been better received by the movie going public. Wonder Woman was great, Aquaman is in my top 10 Super Hero films, Shazam was fantastic as well, hell even Gunn's Suicide Squad is shaping up to be a lot of fun, and then there's Patterson's Batman which is shaping up nicely as well. I say just do a soft reboot and put all of the above, along with Black Adam, into a proper DC movieverse. With The Rock in this film it's already going to pull in high 9 figures. Can't wait

Well they're not even pretending he'll be villainous then. Full anti-hero.

It's funny that Rock is going back to familiar territory with him, he got his biggest break when The Scorpion King came out and was a huge hit, a movie that was a prequel set in ancient Egyptian times, and now he's doing the same with Teth-Adam.
My biggest problem is that I know they're going to lean heavily in trying to paint Adam more sympathetically in this movie, because Rock has a special place in his heart for the character, and he's gonna have the call on how he's portrayed. While Adam is a sympathetic character at times, he's still a vicious dictator who, much like Doctor Doom, is a murderer who always puts his and his country's interests over everything else.

No widow's peak is a bit disappointing.
