I really liked the match but, I hope this doesn't become a common thing.
Both Omega and Moxley are great without all these bells and whistles.

This is how you simulate violence well.
On scrutiny so much of this match was staged yet because of the fantastic storytelling they had me wincing and looking away way more than some death matches I have seen where they were really hurting each other.

That's the core thing here. Like, yes, compared to many death matches, it's not the most violent and stuff was staged but in terms of violence on a mainstream promotion scale? AND from the story they were building that these two were willing to go that far because they f***ing hated each other? It worked. Like, I was seeing takes from people saying stuff like "So why are they doing this to each other? There's no reason for it" and it's like "it...it was literally in the hype video, dude!"

The match was art. It was wonderful and incredible, it is I believe Jon Moxley's magnum opus. It followed a through line since the Jericho interview where he said that Dusty Rhodes wanted him to be like James Dean and Moxley compared his humor to John McClane. That crawling through glass spot was the moment Jon Moxley literally became John McClane. And the ending with Moxley laying in the corner talking to the camera was literal action movie shit.

Didn't notice this at first but Kenny said in the hype package something about Moxley thinking he could chain wrestle him and then Mox literally uses a chain against him.

It was very, very good. Quite draggy in places like any match which doesn't start with that shit in the ring. Mox sold the chain choke for about eight years so that Kenny could hit that tope.
It legit seemed like they were trying to murder each other, but it had a pleasing amount of wrestling in it and I actually thought by far the roughest spot was Kenny packing himself into the f***ing wood.
I do find deathmatches a little confusing in an arc for some wrestling characters.
Somehow Moxley and guys like Foley seem still faceish and like someone you can support despite committing war crimes in the ring. Omega seemed to be a bit more kinda... heroic before this angle properly heated up, and it feels weird to cheer smiley comedy Kenny that does hadoukens after I have see him jab and ice pick in an open wound. Saying that Foley was a total goof often simultaneously, so it seems like an issue I take with it applied to Kenny specifically.
