So I’ve been listening to the Jim Cornette podcast over the last month or so because he’s doing a weekly NXT vs AEW breakdown that is, hate him or not, damn good listening.
So some things I agree with, some things I don’t. But he really seems to have a problem with Kenny Omega, in fact I don’t think he’s ever called him by his proper name, he calls him Kenny Olivier. It took me a few minutes to realise who the hell he was talking about.
Is there a story behind the hatred here?

He wrestled a 9 Year Old.
Basically that.In Cornette's eye Omega disgraced the business forever

I think it's just his "thing" to feud with Omega and The Young Bucks on his podcast and therefore say nothing positive about them.

They crossed paths in ring of honor and Jim is convinced that Omega faked an injury so he could get out of a booking, that’s when the problems started, the ddt matches just compounded his hatred.

If you do anything that would make 1983 Bill Watts mad 2019 Cornette will hate you forever.

Omega isn't a cowboy, or doesn't like canned spaghetti or some other dumb shit.

The proper response to this is “Unless he, like, punched him in the dick and threw his dog in the river, who cares?”

Kenny Omega wrestled a nine year old girl and he also wrestled a blow up doll. They were presented as wrestling matches. The videos are out there if you want to look them up. Cornette took great offense to both and will never forgive him for what he sees as an affront to the wrestling business.

The usual reason Cornette is a contrarian, pretty much.
What I'm more confused about is what the nickname is meant to signify. Yes, yes, you're getting his name wrong because apparently that's the highest form of wit. But it just makes me think of Lawrence Olivier, and yes, Kenny is also a talented guy who's well loved by his peers and considered to be one of the best performers of his generation.

Omega's match with the little kid was actually brilliant, because he showed the value of selling, and how it can even make a nine year old girl's offence look devestating if done right. It was a masterclass, and Cornette completely misunderstood it.

Isn't the kid Riho?

It wasn’t. I think that kid retired a few years after but I could be wrong.

Because, like Jordan grace, Kenny considers his wrestling as performance art and Cornette see his wrestling as trying too hard to tell some story

You know, I just looked it up and that match with the 9 year old is genuinely brilliant. It's not like at any point it ever looks like she's actually going to win, but Kenny's doing such a great job of both being a smug asshole and of selling her offense that it's still genuinely interesting to watch, on top of just being funny for how ridiculous it is.

Exactly, if I was Cornette, f*** being enraged, I'd be impressed as hell (like I am genuinely about the thing) the fact is, Omega wrestles matches with children and blow-up dolls and they're still entertaining, he can do serious stuff and he can do comedy stuff and he can do both of them really, really, REALLY well.

Different girl, though Riho was about that age when she started wrestling.

I respect Jim Cornette's place in the history of the business as a promoter, manager, commentator, and historian. All of that being said: The same Jim Cornette who booked a mummy and a ninja turtle to wrestle in SMW is worried about someone making a mockery of the business?
